    Hi,

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-AR18GP with HDMI, running XP. I have been successfully connecting to my Samsung 42" Plasma via HDMI with stunning video and audio by simply Fn-F7 switching.

However, I have just upgraded to a Sony KDL52X3100 52" Full HD LCD and when hooking up the HDMI in the same way I get stunning 1080P video and no audio.

I have selected "Enable HDMI Output" (it was already selected) on Sound Reality Centre in Ctrl Panel, have played around with the Bravia's settings but can't find any way to get it to accept the Audio. The most bafflying thing is that this is Sony-to-Sony, but Sony-to-Samsung was happy as larry!

I have searched the net for about 4 hours now with no joy - all suggestions gratefully received!

    Cheers

You need to disable your laptop's onboard speakers to get sound through the HDMI port.

Right click on the loudspeaker icon in your taskbar, and select Playback devices. Then right click on your speakers, and select DISABLE. Right click on your onboard output of the HDMI, e.g. "Realtek digital output", and click "Enable".

P.S. Don't get too baffled with the SONY - SONY thing. After a lifelong marriage, I divorced Sony several years ago after they began outsourcing complete inferior products, boxing them and marketing them as their own @ 50% more expensive than the machine they really were.

Thanks for the reply. Right clicking on the only speaker icon on the taskbar gives the following (no "Playback devices") and if I click "Adjust Audio Properties" I get the very uninspiring "Sounds and Audio Devices..." panel (see below) Anything I can do with that?

As for a Realtek digital output icon on the taskbar, I have nothing. The only remotely HDMi thing I can find is in Ctrl Panel >- Sound Reality Audio which gives a control panel that looks like all HDMI stuff is happily working...

    Any further ideas?

    Cheers

Yeah, You've got 3rd pary software (Sound Reality Audio) configuring your audio devices, so your menus are different from the standard windows ones. On my G1S, just using the standard windows menus, I need to disable the speakers to get sound through the HDMI, and from reading other posts this is quite normal. Maybe you can find your speakers in Device manager and disable them ? - Just an idea.

Thanks again. I can't find where to disable the speakers in Device Manager...plus I'm confused as to why I need to deactivate the in-built speakers when connecting to the Bravia - when connected to the Samsung there is sound from BOTH the laptop and the TV...the laptop speaker volume can be controlled by the laptop software/hardware while the TV can be controlled using the TV remote...bizarre!

Ever since I bought this laptop I've had 'interesting' problems...I'd welcome any other suggestions...
