Okay, so I found a pretty good deal on eBay on a CR series Vaio, but it's display model. However, the seller says it still has it's 1 year warranty from Sony, but the auction says nothing about including the original sales receipt or invoice, wouldn't I need this for the warranty to be valid? Maybe I'm completely wrong on this, but I'm just wondering how they'd know when to start the one year from without the receipt.
With my old Toshiba, I was told by the Best Buy associate that I'd need my receipt when making a repair claim on my laptop through Toshiba, is it the same with Sony?

Without a receipt your warranty by default starts on the date of the CR market release. I would call Sony to double check the exact date, actually call a couple times because in my experience different representatives come up with different answers.

Ah, thanks very much!
I asked the seller about the receipt...it's kind of a no-go without it for me. ^^ -
One way for Sony to tell is when the laptop is registered with them. When you buy a brand new laptop, you register with Sony and get a year from that time with them.

Who you speak to and the circumstances of your warranty claim probably plays a factor in how they determine what "proof" they need from you as well.
According to your logic, one would have to be very careful about buying a brand new, Older (> 1 yr) Model laptop and not have a receipt. Because that laptop would have no warranty on it from Sony even though it's brand new in box. -
Same for me. The guy just asked when I bought it over the phone and had me ship it with that info, all expenses covered by Sony. Now the procedure isn't done yet but I don't think they'll want to see the receipt, as it probably should have been shipped with the notebook itself, if requested.
