Hi all, I am helping a friend with his Sony Vaio Laptop E series (SVE15117FGW) which is very slow. There are quite a few Event log errors.

    I have tried:

running MBAM (only 1 small PUP)
    running Adaware (nothing)
a clean install of Windows 7 Home premium 64 bit SP1 plus updates then loaded all drivers from Sony (no errors in Device Manager)
did HDD CHKDSK and HDD performance checks - OK
WEI is 5.9 (lowest is HDD seems normal))
    still getting heaps of errors,
I then saved user files and reset to factory settings from the recovery partition (Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit + Vaio progs)
but I still keep getting heaps of event errors and it is still slow.

    Hardware is:
    Sony Vaio E series
    Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit SP1
    Intel I5-2450 @ 2.5 Ghz
    4 GB RAM
    580 GB HDD

I am now to the stage where I am thinking of loading Windows 7 32 bit to see if that helps. If anyone has come across this or has any suggestions I would be most grateful.

Here are the errors for the last few days since I reset to factory setting from the recovery, Sorry about including the errors in the text I had a problem attaching the file.

    cheers,

    Kenshep

    a couple ideas:

could be hard drive / sector errors. run a CHKDSK /R from a command-prompt window. It may set it self to run on the next boot. (might take hours to scan)

I would probably run a program to check the hard drive's s.m.a.r.t. status too.
get CrystalDiskInfo and check the status.

also maybe test the memory using memtest.

Hi S.Prime, I thought it was the HDD but I have just run CrystalDiskInfo and SMART is GOOD, 35 deg C and 5400 RPM so that is OK, also just finished my third CHKDSK /R and no errors on screen but I cannot find the log file.

I forgot to mention that I have previously run sfc /scannow with no errors so I am running out of ideas. The first part of the boot to logon screen is about 40 seconds which is OK, but after I enter the password it is very unresponsive with high disk activity for about 5 minutes, I guess this is where the errors are discovered and written to the event viewer.

Thanks for your interest, any other thoughts, I can't be the only one having this problem. I see a few logs that say ignore the errors but when it interferes with the operation of the laptop that's where I think it needs fixing.

    cheers,

    kenshep

I saw "ntdll.dll" listed a couple times in there. might be worth looking into that.

do you get the errors while running in safe-mode? did you check the memory using memtest?

the only other thing i can think of right now is perhaps it is a corrupted user profile. maybe make a new user account and see if it generates errors.

Hi S.Prime, yes goethe errors while running in safe mode so it is a system error not driver. UPDATE **............. loaded Windows7 from the recovery Partition and after doing a heap of Windows updates the errors seem to have disappeared. Thee boot up is about 20 seconds to Logon and about another 20 to Desktop, so maybe it's OK. For an I5 processor it doesn't really seem to be that zippy but the forum and google are full of slow Sony Vaio's.

Thanks for your interest S.Prime, hope that's the last I see of it, still seems a bit weird to me.
