Sony Viao (NW series at least) have a quick boot feature for access to the internet without fireing up your operating system. Hit the special quick access button and away you go.

Guess what, if it is a computer for your child you cant even turn the button off or set it with a password. It resides on your motherboard any parental controls mcafee or otherwise are useless. The system for the quick access is by devicevm and is called splashtop.

Help, anyone know how to control this, keep in mind this runs straight off the motherboard and windows is not fired up.

    Regards

Windows may not be fired up - but it does access your hard drive. Splashtop files are stored in SPLASH.SYS and SPLASH.000.

If these folders are not present - the Splashtop boot system (on the motherboard) will not launch the Splashtop OS.

You can just uninstall Splashtop from Programs & Features. Or perhaps just rename or move these folders (in case you want to re-enable Splashtop later).

No strings of this sort found, searched "all locations" an C: drive also multiple times. I am new to windows 7 but think I searched correctly, search is different than in XP explore as I am used to.

Any ideas of the pathing to these folders and maybe I can look that way as well.

Sony tier 2 support engineering has supposedly been handed this problem of mine as many other parents may not like this quick boot feature as well.

If this is all on my motherboard as some have suggested bet I am screwed unless they develope a bios flash.
