Just bought a Sony Viao 448 J/B the palm rest gets very warm almost hot when running. This is my first Viao so I'm not familiar with the normal symptoms. Any feedback will be appreciated

What are your specs exactly? Under what tasks does it get hot? Try recording your temps with a program like HWmonitor or something so we can get exact numbers.

While Vaios(like most laptops) do get warm, they're known to handle the heat of their parts quite well so it shouldn't get uncomfortable.

    The Spec are:
2.1GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T6500 Processor, 800MHz Front Side Bus
    4GB DDR2 SDRAM (2GBx2)
320GB 7200RPM Serial ATA Hard Drive, DVD/CD +/- RW Optical Drive
Genuine Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit
16.4" widescreen LCD with XBRITE-FullHD technology, Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD

It warms up if several programs are open and viewing video online.

If the right side - that's the hard drive - elevate your back end about 1/2" for better airflow. Check your temps with HWMonitor. If doing several tasks will get warm, see mine go as high as 40C, but pretty normal and much cooler than some of my older laptops.
