If you run fresh install, that problem may happen. Try install sony utilities completely.

That problem cropped up once on a desktop my son owned a few years ago. The issue went away when we ran System Repair. Never did figure out what caused the situation, but the computer was fine after the repair - never had the problem again.

i think you can boot up with windows xp installation cd and choose repair the system instead of installing the os

IIRC, you wait until you see "Repair" for the second time, then click on it and go from there. In other words, when your machine boots, begin a normal installationl. Shortly after that, you'll get the option for the second time to "Repair" instead of Reinstalling Windows.

Sorry, can't be more specific than that - I no longer run Windows on my machines; it's been quite a while since I've gone through the process. Oh, btw, I'm talking about using a Windows XP disk, not a system restore CD with all the junk and bloatware, too. I'm not sure it's possible to "Repair" only with a restore CD.

with the restore cd, i think once you launch the recovery wizard, there's an option to repair the os
