    Hi All

This may sound like a silly question, but what does the Sony Video Shared Library do???

I have just done a clean install with Vista and I haven't installed this as I have no idea what it does. I didn't even use it with my clean install for xp.

    Thanks!

Video codec Library in order to help the media applications like "VAIO Media","VAIO ZONE","VAIO Video & Photo Suite","SonicStage" and "SonicStage Mastering Studio" to decode special media files from sony itself, like OMA music format, the newest version which added support of AVCHD format.

Oh right! I wantd to know what that is either, judging by the name - I thought it was something to do with sharing videos across VAIO computers on the LAN or something so I uninstalled it.

Could that be the reason why my DVD player isn't working? When I try to play a DVD in WMP - it says missing codec?

    Any ideas?

Yeah I had the same problem as well so I just installed WinDVD to play dvd's and all is good.

If the video shared library is installed will WMP use a codec to be able to play dvd's?????

Well I presume it has something to do with it cause I uninstalled it and my WMP won't play any DVDs now :(

Don't you have to pay for WinDVD though?

Wow - cool, is that FTP legal?

Also - do I download WinDVD or WinDVDx? Compatible with Vista yeh?

    Thanks for the tip.

Yeah it is a Sony FTP site and as far as I know it is legal. I installed WinDVD as I have no idea what WinDVDx does. Maybe a dvd copy program??

Yes everything on that site is for Vista upgrade.

Well I installed the Video Shared Library and my WMP still wouldn't play my DVDs will I put them in, just gives me a error message and crash and closes it-self.

So I went to try Cyberlink PowerDVD and it works! Not sure if the PowerDVD is working on its own or the combination with the Sony Shared Video Library though?

I would say PowerDVD has it's own dvd video codec as I guess WinDVD does. Could be wrong though. I have always found WMP fussy with what it plays so I only usually use it for MP3's.

It worked fine for me back with XP, just re-formatted my Vista and haven't tried it yet.

Hopefully it will play my DVDs this time - I left all the Sony video drivers/codec (AC3 decoder) drivers in just to see if it makes a difference.
