Thanks for the heads up - I always used to get an error when entering in the COA and I just tried it and got through! Waiting for my confirmation email.

    Now just have to wait.

Reason for bad COA was the website was not ready to accept the express upgrade. (According to Sony CS)
It's good now, I'm hoping I get it before the end of the month.

How did you send QMS your proof of purchase - I tried emailing to the address they gave but it bounced. That company seems like a piece of crap.

I ended up faxing it to them after that and the fax went through but haven't heard anything since then. Hopefully they got the fax and I'm all set.

Yes, I sent them a fax of the email and a copy of my invoice with a purchase date.

They will not contact you unless there is a problem with the paperwork you sent in(my guess), I think when it's time you will receive the upgrade.
This company is located here in WA, so I can go to the office if I don't get my copy and bug them

Thanks for the link. I am wondering whether it is worth upgrading to Vista on my SZ360 now, or just keep the disks and use them after SP1?

Thanks for the link. I hadn't realized that a packing slip could count as a form of proof of purchase ---- given all the 'issues' I had with my VAIOs, I'm hoping that I'll be covered under the purchase date umbrella now.

I spoke to one of the Q media solution customer care representatives because I wanted to check if they had received all my materials. Like one of you had mentioned in this thread, I never got any confirmation. Anyway, the agent told me that the upgrade kits would be shipping sometime around the beginning of February after the vista launch on Jan 30th. So keep your fingers crossed! :D

    @umpcguy,

I never got a confirmation either. Do you have the phone # you called to actually get in touch with a human at QMS? I want to make sure my paperwork is in order as well. Thanks.

I don't think they plan to send confirmation to anyone,( just not feasible) other then the order receipt and number with instructions. If you dont receive it the first week of Feb, call.

once qmedia gets all of the orders in and send the list of the rejected and accepted off to sony, then sony will be calling and or e-mailing people back with confirmations. that is if you faxed or mailed it in but if you e-mailed it in then once they check it then you should received an e-mail confirmation

I wonder if this upgrade will only be upgrade discs that can be applied to an existing installation using the XP Restore Disks or if it will essentially be new restore disks with Vista. I am hoping for the later so I can do a "fresh" Vista install without upgrading from the previous version of Windows... that never goes as smoothly as it could (performance issues, legacy files left around, etc).

Is there any chance of us getting this the same time Vista is released in stores? The details are a bit sketchy as to when we actually will recieve our copy and I'm pretty excited for the upgrade.

the serial number should be on the right side of the sticker as shown in the icture example on sony's site. Your receipt should also say the serial number.

On another note, after you send (I emailed) in your proof of purchase receipt, do they send you another confirmation?

I see there is a serial number on my receipt, but no serial number on the bottom of the notebook.

    *edit

The serial number on the receipt is my Best Buy member number but says "serial #" on the receipt.

If it originally accepted your serial number and you got an email confirmation then you've probably entered the correct serial #... I'd probably call sony after you've sent your Proof of Purchase to them to make sure everything is fine.

You can actually enter in a random number/letter combination and it will let you proceed.

I called Qmedia Solutions today and they told me the serial number wasn't important. It is just for reporting purposes. The only important number is the COA. This would explain why people can put in an abitrary number in the serial number and proceed, but the COA number has to be verified. I also asked the representative the fastest way for them to recieve and process my order, in which they replied: FAX.
