    USA model.

I read that the Sony X is 1.6 lbs.

What is the ACTUAL weight of the Sony extended battery that runs it about 9 hours? The native battery without the extended runs under 3 hours so the extended is probably a necessity.

    Thanks,
    UL

I'm not sure which battery you actually mean.

With the BPL19 battery the X weighs 780g/1.71lbs with wwan built in. Without wwan built in it weighs 745g. Sony actually claim that this is good for 8hrs but it isn't. It appears to be able to get more like 5-6hrs battery life.

With the BPX19 battery that gives it a tilt it weighs 2.3lbs. Sony claim this is good for 14hrs. In reality it may pull up closer to 10/11hrs flash surfing with at least 50% brightness.

    Edited to add:
In the US it comes as standard with a BPS19 and bundled with a BPX19.

The extended VGP-BPX19 battery on its own, weighs approx. 550 g (1.2 lbs)

    Rachel,

Thanks. that's what is not making sense. The laptop itself is about 1.7 lbs. add a 1.2 lbs battery, it should be 2.9 lbs.

However, Sony claims a combined weight of only 2.3 lbs....?

Can anyone give insight into this?

The extended battery replaces the regular one, hence the weight difference. It fits in the same slot and covers the entire bottom of the laptop. More like a slice battery with the slight gap near the top.

The Vaio X body, without battery weighs about 530 g (1.17lbs)

The extended VGP-BPX19 battery weighs approx. 550 g (1.2 lbs)

So the Vaio X with the extended battery attached weighs about 2.3 lbs.

The '1.7 lbs' figure you hear in ads and reviews refers to the Vaio X with a 'standard' battery attached.

Yes the 1.7lbs is with the BPL19 that comes standard in the EU but not in the US.

Sonystyle.com claim that the X weighs 1.5-1.6 (not 1.7lbs) with the BPS19 that you get as standard in the US. As the OP is talking about a 3hrs50mins battery life then it looks like they will be getting the BPS19 and the extended BPX19.

That's right Rachel, I wrote 'standard' with the quote marks as different batteries are supplied with machine depending on region and model.

There are 3 different batteries available for the Vaio X.

The VGP-BPS19 and VGP-BPL19 look the same and fit flush with the body.

    VGP-BPS19 approx. 145g

    VGP-BPL19 approx. 235g

    VGP-BPX19 approx. 550g

The US and Canada models have VGP-BPS19 & VGP-BPX19 supplied in the box.

European models have only the VGP-BPL19 supplied in the box.

South East Asian models (HK, Singapore, Australia etc) have only one battery too. It's either the VGP-BPL19 or the VGP-BPS19 for the lower spec models.

Thanks everyone. That explains everything. Wish the X had a HDMI out....sigh.
