I am considering the AR series and I asked two sony sales rep about the display rating in terms of brightness. Does anyone know how many nits the XBRITE Hicolor is? Also, what about the brightness rating for the XBRITE Eco? Thanks.

thanks for the quick response. so would it be fair to say it's rated at 357 nits since it's the average? Was the rating for the XBRITE Eco or Hicolor? From the article, it seemed like they were describing the Eco since the resolution wasn't 1920. The Hicolor ARs come in 1920 resolutions.

    Hello,

(This is the same post I put in the thread "WXGA+ vs. WUXGA (Fujitsu Amilo M3438G vs. M4438G)".)

I have been thinking to buy a Sony LCD HDTV, but have now decided to wait until I have money and space for a high quality 40" screen.

Meanwhile, I also need a new PC, so I plan to get a VAIO AR, which can be used for watching film upclose for the time being.

I see on the US Specifications that these AR models have either XBRITE-HiColor, which has brightest and best picture, and the XBRITE-ECO which is less bright. But I don't see these on the EU Specifications. Instead they have X-Black WXGA+ and X-Black WUXGA.

How does the XBRITE-HiColor compare to the X-Black?

Another thing. Can I also play my old DVDs in the VAIO AR BluRay-player? Or do I need a separate PC with DVD-player for that?

Sony Bravia LCD HDTVs, like other LCDs, are known for having unstable picture unless they have the Motionflow function of the more expensive models.

How stable is the picture in the VAIO AR?

A review for VAIO VGN-AR5SU says that the WinDVD BD 8.0 software is a bit unstable under Vista . But that it can be fixed with an update. Does "update" mean future models, or that I can fix it myself?
