Hi mates,
I would like to change my notebook, and I would like to take advises...here s my touchstones below;
1-the screen must be excellent (colorful,razor-sharp,bright)
it will be used in some graphics,games,dvds,text works...
2-must be at least 9700 ati and more...(I havent found a pci model in sony s and toshibas,just found in acer)
3-Comparison between Toshiba Qosmio screen vs Sony Xbrite screen?
(note:no limit in money)
thanks...

I evaluated only the 17" models; the qosmio, the fuji 17" n6000, the hp zd7000 and the sony a290 before deciding on the sony. All side by side in several stores. I spent about 4 to 5 hours total at these stores making sure I could live with the screen since I'd be using this notebook for 50 hrs a week for the next several years.
The 1650x1400 HP screen next to the sony did not do well at all; Too blue, not very bright and the pixels were not sharp.
The qosmio and n6000 were nearly identical in screen brightness (equal to the sony) but the big reason I did not like these 2 models was the lack of decent resolution on the 17" screens; it was only 1440x900 which is like running LARGE font all the time. The screens were nice and bright, but in my opinion, the resolution was seriously lacking for a screen this size.
I decided on the sony because of the screen mainly; super sharp, super bright when you need it; very good resolution at 1920x1200. I made sure that I could read the smaller font and spent a few hours playing with them in the stores. It also has a button for reducing the resolution on the fly and its pretty usable too. I spend a lot of time programming and need the high resolution to have lots of windows open and viewable at the same time; this has worked out great for the month i've had this.
The drawbacks with the sony; sound on board is weak, however the a290 comes with a docking station and some pretty nice external speakers that more than make up for the weak sound onboard. The a/v docking station also has 4 USB, all the video in/out including tv coax in; dvi/vga out, optical sound out, etc.
Battery life on the a290 is about 2.5 hrs max; not great, but not terrible either.
My primary use of the machine is for business programming; so the XP media center edition that comes with the qosmio is not important nor is the onboard sound for the same reason. For me, it was the hi resolution crystal clear screen.
Hope this helps.

Well, the Sony A will have a X600 soon, so if the above comparison fits for you, the Sony should do the trick.

I agree with SONY XBrite being the best compromise between brightness and reflectivity. I tested at Fry's four 17" laptop LCD screens:
* Fujitsu CrystalView
* Toshiba Qosmio TruBrite
* HP BrightView
* Sony XBrite
HP BrightView was the worst: not bright but as reflective as SONY XBrite.
CrystalView and TruBrite were equally bright and (too) reflective. Unfortunately, Fujitsu's keyboard is WHITE, which means you'll see the keyboard heavily reflected in the screen!
Sony XBRite was a bit less bright than TruBrite, but also less reflective. I finally bought the SONY VGNA270, and it's a great screen, except that @ 1900x1200 I find the fonts way too small. DVDs also look very good on the screen. My laptop has an ATI video board and the colors are a bit too white, though, compared to the superb ViewSonic VP191b 19" monitor.
I've also noticed that on my SONY XBrite screen you can see diagonal hatches when the screen shows black (e.g. if you set the desktop color to black, not when the laptop is in standby mode). Can anyone confirm this?

Not sure what you mean by diagonal hatches but when the screen is black and i see an overhead light reflected I see the reflected light has a very slight reflection that has a slight diagonal ridge pattern too it. Does not bother me at all since I don't LOOK at the reflections.
I also looked and finally bought at Frys.
The fuji white keys is really stupid for both your reason and the simple reason that keyboard keys tend to get dirty over time and the white keyboard will look dirty in a few months. Plus the HP and the FUJI have a keyboard offset to the left because of the num pad on the right hand side, so if you use those notebooks, your always going to be offset (viewing-wise) to the left side of the screen.

thanks so much for ur reviews...All models I mentioned on top s available in Turkey notebook market,I m going to add another 512mb ram to Sony machine.Sometimes I couldnt find reviews in pc magazines,I have searched some Germany,French magazines in these issues,they say;"qosmio s the best and in the front line,the second s sony xbrite,third s fujitsu crystalview...but u said opposite things...confused.
have u tested an apple powerbook screen? how do u find it? amazing,isnt it?(just only screen,I do not think to buy an apple)
Well actually,I do not use some professional graphics programmes in notebooks,coz notebooks gpus are not capable of handling all applications enough.I use desktop instead of notebook.But in the travel,journey I must open and make some little arrangements,and it must be eye cather machine for these needs..
