This is important for anyone who has an extrernal lcd monitor that rotates to the vertical/portrait position...

In the Nvidia Control Panel there is no option to Rotate Display.

That sucks, since my HP #w2408h monitor rotates to the vertical postion, I use it that way most often, perfect for viewing/writing docs.

This isn't possible on the Z?

In the Nvidia control panel on my LG P300 there is the option for Rotate display, one click and it adjusts to my HP, works perfect.

The Nvidia software isn't the same version:

    Sony Z 570 - Nvidia version # 1.5.700.23
    LG P 300 - Nvidia version # 1.5.700.44

I'm trying to find out if I can upgrade the software to .44 to solve the problem.

Does anyone know if this is possible or where/how to find a way to upgrade to that version, I haven't had any luck searching online so far.

anyone, know how to plug into an external monitor that rotates to a verticle position.

The nvidia control panel software doesn't allow that, it should the nvidia help section even refers to veritical rotation of the display?

Anyone know? This is an important question for me too. I use my desktop LCD in the vertical orientation.

Can anyone help me with this?

In the Nvidia control panel there is no option to set the monitor for vertical rotation, in my other notebooks/desktop the option is there.

I have an hp monitor that turns vertical - great for writing/web design/publisher etc.

Nvidia has their site set up so they're hard to reach directly, I did find an email address and sent an email 10 days ago and no reply, I called Sony tech support they told me to contact Nvidia to see if there was a software update.... so I'm sent in circles ...

Why the Nvidia software on the Sony doesn't have the verticle rotation setting baffles me?

    Thanks.

Wow, sorry to hear that. i too use my large LCD vertically. In fact, I was thinking of getting a large (47" or larger) 1080P LCD screen to mount on the wall so that we can use it in the kitchen/dining room - but could not figure out how to mount that LCD so that it can rotate to vertical position. I doubt anyone makes a mount like that.... :)

could be off base here but is it anything to do with resolution?
if you dropped the res on Z would the rotate option then pop up?

as to updating driver, technically you should be able to but the laptop may not like it and may play up in other areas. i have forced desktops to take different graphics drivers but this was by modifying the inf file, never had a laptop to try it. i always do a restore point obviously. sometimes you need to boot into safe mode to roll back to previous driver. you may be able to copy the driver from the LG to the sony, go to device manager and install the driver from there, don't get the laptop to do it on auto. i can't really run you through the specifics as i'm not an expert by any means but if you do some more googling you may find some more detailed help.

edit: as to why you can't update drivers auto on notebooks i'm stumped on. i've found with desktops that most drivers are not perfect, especially with gaming etc and they generally need updating for some reason. maybe the notebook ones are more 'perfected' and therefore should not be updated?
