Does anyone know how to get XP SATA drivers in textmode format to slipstream with nLite?

Is it possible to just slipstream the Vista drivers into an XP disc?

SOLUTION (saves you reading this whole thread):

    1. Get these drivers Click to download drivers

    2. Slipstream with nLite*

*You may run into more BSOD if you include other driverpacks (Bashrat the Sneaky). So DO NOT include other drivers.

Andy! You sir, are my hero. You have no idea how many forums I've tried and how many hours I've logged over the past three days trying to get this stupid thing to work. I'm amazed that it took this long to find such a simple solution.

Thank you so much! Repped up.

Shoot. I think I spoke too soon. I got another BSOD further into the XP install.

    I get past formatting HD
I get past copying system files
    Reboot
    Installing Windows - Installing Devices
    Installing Network
    Copying files...
    Installing Start menu items...
    Registering components...
    Saving Settings
    Reboot
    BSOD!!

When you slipstreamed the drivers, did you choose the text-mode with AHCI instead of PnP? That might have been the issue?

What are the specs of the notebook ? Did you slipstream the XP drivers ?

What was the STOP code on the BSOD ? Does XP load ?

I did textmode. Should it be PnP?

My understanding is that it has to be textmode to make it read during windows install.

From the point of second BSOD, it looks like it needs PnP AHCI drivers???

reminder: i think the cdrom AND hd are sata.

    CPU = T or P 8400
    Chipset = GM45 Express

I slipstreamed the XP drivers. LOTS of them. Bashrat the Sneaky drivers (if you know what that is).

    STOP code = 0x0000007B (0xBACCF5254, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

XP gets all the way to this point:

    I get past formatting HD
I get past copying system files
    Reboot
    Installing Windows - Installing Devices
    Installing Network
    Copying files...
    Installing Start menu items...
    Registering components...
    Saving Settings
    Reboot
VAIO splash screen (not windows xp)
    BSOD

That code is for Inaccessible Boot Device. The drivers are incorrect or corrupted.

Try slipstreaming this whole folder of drivers as text-mode, if installing Windows XP Pro 32-Bit (?).

Did you use the same Intel drivers as linked ? And if you're slipstreaming SP3 manually through nlite, avoid that.

Is there an option to toggle the HDD Mode in the BIOS ?

I used the link found in your original thread, which you linked above in post #2. I tried downloading the new one you just posted, but it was the same zip file.

There's no option to toggle HDD mode in the BIOS. That would have solved everything! Sony BIOS barely lets you set the internal clock.

Try slipstreaming the new one without SP3, and see if it works.

Does the HDD get detected without the SATA driver slipstreamed ?

My "custom" XP version already has SP3 built in, and I dunno how to take it out.

I don't think the HDD gets detected without SATA. Before today, the farthest I got was:

    "Boot from CD"
    Setup loading drivers...
    Starting Windows installation...
    BSOD

Today, I got all the way through:
    I get past formatting HD
I get past copying system files
    Reboot
    Installing Windows - Installing Devices
    Installing Network
    Copying files...
    Installing Start menu items...
    Registering components...
    Saving Settings
    Reboot
VAIO splash screen (not windows xp)
    BSOD

Try running a Repair Install with the same CD.

If that doesn't help, try slipstreaming SP2, and then the whole new driver folder, and try another XP install.

You mentioned that your ODD is SATA too. I dunno if that should cause any problems, but your could try booting with the ODD removed.

Are you sure that Sony provides support for XP on your laptop. I have seen an Asus user having similar problems on his notebook. It has something to do with BIOS killing the HDD, to stop XP loading - something (A Retailer mentioned this :p).

    Hey Andy,

What is the significance of removing SP3? I'll look for an old XP disc with only SP2 integrated and slipstream again.

No significance. More like a hit n trial.

If you're slipstreaming right, using the correct drivers, the HDD is fine, then there is really no reason for XP to not work.

Basically XP is not able to detect the Boot Device (0x7B), i.e. HDD.

Hmmm. Maybe the driverpacks are overwriting the folder you told me to slipstream. It goes through an automated extraction process halfway through the install; after loading your intel drivers though.

    Sound logical?

Don't really know, what's the cause of it.
If you can borrow a USB Floppy Drive, it maybe worth trying out installing the AHCI driver through it.

The way I see it, everything is fine, XP installs, sees your HDD etc etc. But for some reason, your notebook is not allowing the HDD to boot XP. If there would have been a driver-error, your HDD would not have been detected.

Try a different XP CD, as a probable work-around.

And this is the advanced troubleshooting for that Error Code (0x7B).

    Yes!!

I made it all the way to the desktop! The problem could have been one of two things that I changed in my last attempt.

    1. I didn't include the driver packs in this version of XP.

    2. I used the second link posted by Andy and slipstreamed the entire folder (i slipped the entire folder the first time too).

Either case, Andy's solution was a true success, once you take out other variables.

    THANK YOU SO MUCH AGAIN!

BTW, install the matrix storage manager, to get the full advantage of AHCI. ;)

Thanks! It sucks that I have to give this thing back to my sister; it's not mine! She owes me one HUGE dinner for getting this thing up and running. I feel so l33t though for getting this issue solved. I'm glad I can still find the resources/people to get techy stuff done.

    Thanks everyone on NotebookReview.com!

    Hi!

I have a similar problem, slipstreaming XP-SP2 with SP3 AND the link from the intel site.

Installation went ok, but after the first reboot I get:
    Media error.
    Press any key for reboot
(or similar, it is in german).

Did it work for you with the download from the sony-vaio site, or what do you mean with "second link".

Thanks a lot for any hint and all the best

    Norbert

I'm intrigued by this comment. What is AHCI and is it worth me installing the (presumably Intel?) matrix storage manager to enable it?

    Thanks!

If your HDD supports NCQ, MSM will enable NCQ. And also LPM, which improves the HDD's power efficiency.
He prob meant this link. Do you get something like "PXE-E61 Media Error" ? Check if the HDD is detected in the BIOS or not.

And avoid slipstreaming SP3. Updating it through Microsoft or Automatic Updates, its about like 70MB only.

Thanks Andy. I don't think my HDD (Toshiba MK3252GSX) supports NCQ, but anything that might save power sounds like a good idea! :)

EDIT - according to Matrix Storage Console, the Toshiba MK3252GSX supports Native Command Queuing after all... I think I found bad info the first time I Googled this.
