    Hi, all.

Please tell me your opinion of the new screen and if you notice the so-called diagonal lines?

    Thank you.

    I have a 1st gen Z and just returned a Z11 with the 1600x900 screen.

The screen is about the same between the two. I did notice that the new version doesn't bleed light around the corners like the 1st gen does.

Also, I did not see the diagonal lines mentioned previously.

The diagonal lines are still there on the units that I have seen but they are a lot less noticeable than the previous Z.

I have no diagonal lines on my Z112. I have the 1600x900 screen.

I will say that the color, brightness, and "pop" of my old Z530 with 1366x768 panel was MUCh better than my new Z.

    I miss that screen.

I "demoed" the Z112 while waiting for the VPCZ11FHX/XQ which comes in tomorrow.

I want the 512GB SSD and 1920x1080 screen.

Screen is beautiful IMO. Colors were TOO saturated in the last gen's Z. This Z had a perfect tone IMO.

I have both the Z690 (1600x900) and the latest Z11 Full HD screen, side by side right now. I like them both very much but the additional real estate on the full HD (using 100% scaling) makes all the difference for me. Out of the box, I was a bit disappointed as I was running on batteries, low brightness, some screen flickering (mentioned by StefanB it seems as well) but right now I love this screen. The color are very deep, although the viewing angle is still limited (due to TN technology primarily I guess.)

Ok, so I've been experimenting (in a completely unscientific way) because this question seems to come back all the time and I really wanted to compare both screens.

I'm in the dark, I have both the Z690 and the Z11 side by side, I'm using the Windows 7 theme 'Landscapes' and I'm just comparing pictures after pictures. Both laptops are running on batteries right now.

    What do I see?
    - the Z11 colors are more saturated. Definitely deeper color, which does not necessarily mean better but the 'pop' a little bit more. The blue skies are bluer, the arches in Zion are a deeper shade of orange. On the lavender field picture, the tree in the back is a more distinct shade of green and while the mountain is really iin a haze n the Z690, it looks much better defined on the new Z11.

    - The Z11 seems to have a smaller vertical viewing angle. If I move up and down, the colors darkens much quicker, the sweet spot is smaller. This could be a caused by the over saturated hues though.

    - Horizontal viewing angles seem to be exactly the same on both machine.

    - I'm not sure if those Microsoft background pics where shot in 1920x1080 and get scaled real-time but they do look better (IMHO) on the new Z.

    - I can't see the diagonal lines but couldn't see them on my old Z690 either so I'm no reference there :)

Regarding the saturation, there's a host of calibration option and this is me usinng the machine straight out of the box so this could likely be adjusted I guess.

Hope this helps a little bit (probably not though :(

One last point: somebody pointed out that the screen is glossy. I guess it is to some extent, but it's not the glass pane you get with a Dell Inspiron/Macbook type of screen.

    Just my $0.02 (again :D )

So running them side by side on batteries. What is your impression on the battery consumption of the 1080 vs the 900?

In my experience, Full HD screen uses ~20% more power compared to 1600x900, and also i7 consumes 5-8% more power than i5 540.

By the way, I'm seriously concerned about the diagonal lines in my Full HD Z. Sometimes when I use the laptop, diagonal lines are invisible in static images and barely visible when there is movement. But there are times also when diagonal lines are clearly visible even in static images and without getting close to the screen, really far worse than the older Z model. And I can't live with that. What am I supposed to do? Reboot every time that happens and hope that the sync between LED changes so the lines are less visible? :/
I'm calling Sony now, but their policy regarding diagonal lines sucks.

Mmh... good question I guess! I'll try to see if I can do some identical discharge test for both (playing DVDs, browsing the web, stamina or speed) when I get the chance.

So far, I feel my new Z has maybe a little less juice than the old one but I tinkered quite a bit in the power option of my Z690 and not on the new one so...

    subjective....
