Comparing the fastest i7 to the i5 processors offered in the Sony Z12 new Z13 make the notebook:
- run warmer?
- make the fan turn on more?
- use more battery power?
Thanks

yes
yes
yes
albeit not too significantly over the i5 (it's still a 25w part like the i5 afterall) -
Achusaysblessyou eecs geek ftw :D
I second those answers by beaups, but not significantly, but then again the i5's are very capable chips in of themselves. I think a few have mentioned that the performance diff between a i5-540m and an i7-620m can only really be measured in benchmarks(unless you're using some program that can actually utilize all your processing power).

Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
the upgrade to the i7 is not really worthy it, its just a masturbatory move.
and while there you get a lower battery life, since the TDP of the i7 is 35W and not the 25W of the i5.
I agree that you should always vouch to get the best processor, if it is worth. -
-
i5 540M is the one to buy, imo
-
I5 is 25w and i7 is 35w no?
-
Max TDP for i5 is also 35W.

My bad, thanks

The differences are minimal, both are fast.
But for resale value, i7 is better. Also many buy the Z for the show, and for that reason an i7 is always impressive. And due to the extra MB of cache and high clock speed and turbo mode speed the i7 is a tiny bit faster. -
I've got the i7 version but thats only because the Z12Z was/is the pre-configured model over here with 8gb ram, the 4x64gb ssd array and fullhd screen. If they used an i5 for that model I still would have bought it just for the ram, ssd and screen. But it never hurts to have more performace

The performance+ can only be measured by benchmarks. In normal usage you won't notice anything.
