Quick Q.
When I first received my vpcz1190 the recovery partition was assigned to D: .
I have sinced restored via a restore CD I made when I first booted into windows and that recovery partition no longer shows up in my computer.
The partition does however still exist as it shows in disk management however the partition is before the system partition and I am unable to assign it a drive letter.
Am I able to restore from that partition?
If I want to delete it and reclaim those 10Gigs how can I expand my C: when it is before the c: partition.
Thanks.

I believe the recovery partition is not suppose to show up in "my computer" cause it is hidden. It should be visible and can be deleted using a windows install disc or any disk partitioning software.
I used easeus partition master to merge what was once the recovery partition into my main c: partition. -
And I remember reading ppl saying they copied the recovery partition over to a backup drive or whatever.
I want to do that, and that is impossible when I can't get it to register as a drive letter. -
download a linux livecd and use a program called "dd" to create an image of the recovery partition.

Its like a backup for a backup -
Yeah so the answer is no.
WORST CASE SCENARIO. (If the CD was dead)
I can do a clean install and manually install drivers.
Thanks. -
.
my advice for whatever new computers i get --
install all the windows updates, update drivers, etc.
install office / adobe cs / etc. (whatever productivity programs you use)
install antivirus to your liking
set windows settings to whatever you prefer (IE using chrome vs IE)
do a "dd" image of the entire hard drive. that way if anything ever goes wrong you can get it right back to a "ready" condition -- it takes some time at the start (and requires a spare HDD to save the image onto) but saves you a hassle if anything goes wrong.

Since I've moved to Vista and 7 over the past few years the stability has been so good I haven't had any failures...touch wood.
I don't care what people say Vista was always solid for me.
