any possibility of the sony z12 getting a bigger screen.. a 14" would make it the correct decision for me. I would get the sony F series but the SSD is too expensive.

No. It's designed as a 13.1 inch (I believe) and it will remain that way. There are many other companies that offer great 14 inch options.

what makes the Z attractive is the dual SSD bay as well as the quality of the products Sony uses... which is why I was leaning towards the Z. This will be a desktop replacement which is why I wanted a screen size 14" screen.

True, but not many offer such a great screen on such a portable machine...

Do you have a monitor for your current desktop? Just plug it into the Z when it's on your desk. If your external monitor is high definition, it will look great and will work seamlessly if you use both your Z monitor and external monitor at the same time. I have a desktop monitor (that does not have a great resolution) that I plan to use with my Z.

I was going to say the same thing. I use mine about 50% of the time mobile and the rest of the time at 1 of two desks. Each desk has a monitor and keyboard into which I plug my laptop into. For me the laptop display is best when optimized for portability. I feel you end up with a poor compromise if you try to make it an ideal desktop display as well (i.e. one ends up with a 17" display on an 8 pound laptop ugh!).

You might point out that 14" is not 17" but I say that 14" is still quite suboptimal as a desktop display as well (only marginally better than 13") ;)

You may consider doing what I did: I used to use an 11.1" display (Vaio Tx) so when I bought the 13" Z, it felt like a giant big screen Tv :D

Not at all since the Z12 is out in parts of the world and it has an 13.1" screen.

The Z doesn't have a dual SSD bay. It has a proprietary dual/trio/quad SSD solution, but zero drive bays that can fit anything except the special drives it comes with.
(Well, you can rip out the DVD/BD player and place a single 3rd party drive bay there, but you'll lose the warranty).

I kind of think that what makes the Z attractive is all the high-end parts and a FHD in a 13" screen. The three pound weight is also pretty nice. ; )
