I have a Sony Z Series VPCZ1290X which comes with an intel 82577 network adaptor. I have installed Windows 2008 R2 64-Bit. I have been trying to install NIC drivers but it gves me message "No Intel(R) adapters are present on this computer" I have tried quite a few downloads (Windows 2008 as well as Windows 7 etc.) from the Intel site. I have always been running Windows 2008 server even on my older Z Series and never had this issue. Just wondering if anyone has experienced this and can guide me.

    Best Regards

I have VPC Z13 with Server 2008 R2 64-Bit running. Don't know if the network adapter is the same in your model, but I had the same problems and got the following hint in the Sony Forum which worked for me: Choose the driver of the network adapter Intel - 82578DM out of the list of supplied drivers from Server 2008 R2 itself. Ignore the warning that this might not be the correct driver for this hardware.

Thanks so much AndreN. I wasted lot of time on this and eventually gave up. I selected 82577LM from the Windows list and it works fine. Now I need to figure out what to do with my USB Ethernet Adapter I ordered on EBAY ;-)

BTW have you been able to figure out how to Bluetooth up and running. That's the only thing left to turn my notebook into perfect Windows 2008 server.

Thanks, I did look around at quite a few resources but none seemed deccent enough to risk corrupting the OS. I am hopeful Microsoft does start to support Bluetooth on server OS. As an IT professional I have to run Windows 2008 to support clients but I do miss not being able to use Bluetoooth devices.
