    Hi,

Could someone that owns a Z and SR series comment on the battery life with both a 6 and 9 cell battery? Thanks.

I think you'll find it hard to find someone who has all four combinations of laptop and battery. I can't comment about the SR or nine cell batteries, but my Z running XP SP3 with 6 cell battery gets around 6 hours light usage (office/web/mp3/wifi) with power saving features enabled. With wifi off, minimum brightness and some heavier tweaks you could probably extend this a bit but I need wireless. ;)

I have the configuration in my sig and without doing anything except hitting maximum battery i get 4 hours according to windows. I haven't tried timing the battery or nothing like that yet, though may when I finally check out the hype behind watching paint dry.

I would say this thing gets 5-6hrs give or take since the estimates seem to be off in Windows and will say 3hr 52mins at 100% and 1hr 44mins at 24%.

Yeah, the Windows Vista meter can vary widely. With tweaking settings on my Z, using Stamina, etc., I average around 5 with the 6-cell, and I get 8 - 9 with the 9-cell.

Of course, doing things like using your hard drive, streaming video (which uses processor), etc., will kill battery life faster, but general web surfing with WiFi on, mail, Word, etc., will get you the battery life I have.

Does the Z just get more battery life than the SR? Anyone have SR numbers with integrated graphics rather than dedicated?

Fender...what kind of operations are you doing (wifi on all the time, web surfing...) when you get 8-9 on the 9 cell?

I can't remember exactly where, but someone on the SR thread stated about 4-5 hours battery life on integrated.

Wait, does the Z with standard battery get almost as much battery life as the SR with extended?

Standard stuff - web, Office, etc. When I start using things like VMWare it starts to go down, but that's expected. I'm on AC more often than not but I've been trying to see how far I can go on a battery, and to date, this is equavalent to both my G and SZ.

It all depends on your usage. I haven't had time to do more optimization, but 8+ hours vs. 4 - 6 is more. If you don't need that, just use/get/keep the standard battery.

Naturally, the Z's battery life would be longer than that of the SR's in the respects that the Z's standard 6-cell battery (the VGP-BPS12) is rated at 5400 mAh capacity while the SR's standard 6-cell battery (the VGP-BPS13A/B) is rated at 4800 mAh capacity. As a SR190CTO owner, I am disappointed that the SR's battery capacity is handicapped, and to make matters worse, Sony failed to mention the mAh ratings of either series' batteries anywhere on their website while claiming that both the Z and SR have up to 6 hours battery life.
Again, I am disappointed with this dishonest representation of the SR's battery life.

I got both the batteries' names from Sonystyle.com under specifications and
proceeded to Googling them for further specifications on the batteries.
I am also able to confirm the SR's 4800 mAh battery rating by looking at the
    label on the battery itself.
Note: I average around 3 hours with the dedicated ATI GPU and standard 6-cell (powersaver setting with wifi on, screen brightness to 1/2, and light surfing & word editing)
