I see a lot of people mentioning the SA and SB as "upgrades" to the Sony Z. Yet, the SA and SB weigh close to 4 pounds while the Z weighs close to three pounds.

I called Sony USA to enquired whether I could order a Z and if they were backorder, when they expect it to have it in stock again. They would not respond and kept suggesting that I buy a refurbished model that they were happy selling me at a discount. This seems to suggest that the current is being discontinued.

Will a new Z be released and if so, when?

If the Z is discontinued, then will Sony release another 3 pounds model? With the Samsung Series 9 about to be released, I find it difficult to imagine that Sony will not occupy that space too.

Anyone has any knowledge of that is going on? Thanks.

I don't think the SB/SA are upgrades, they aren't nearly the same in terms of cost, more like alternatives

The SA will weigh 3.2lbs about the same as the current Z. The SB/SC/SD models weigh a bit more.

The redesigned Z will weigh approx 4lbs with the weight of the added external gpu/optical included. But yes, do check the Z speculation thread.

According to Engadget, the SA would weigh 1.46 kilo this is 3.8 pounds, not 3.2 pounds. 3.8 pounds. This is 26% heavier that the current Z13. Very disappointing if this is the replacement for the Z.

The speculation thread is all over the map and includes a lot of information not relevant to my specific question.

errr... the math is a bit skiwered

    1.46 kilograms = 3.21874903 pounds

and your not specific question was answered there time and time again
