So I'm thinking of getting a z13 next month and I just wanted to know how is the gaming on it?
Has anyone played WoW on it? How is the FPS and gameplay on raids?
    What about SC2? or COD:MW2? or Assassin's Creed2?
Any screenshots or fps rates of any game?

    Thank you.

Yeah, I'm thinking of getting the Sony Z and would also like to know how it handles gaming - especially Civ 5 and Mass Effect 2.

Thank you for the link Blahman, it's really nice to see that SC2 runs pretty similar to the m11x r2.

Has anyone played WoW? or has link to a forum thread? I really can't find anything and it makes me wonder.. its not possible that not even one person that owns this computer hasn't played yet =/

You're best off searching for 330M benchmarks in notebooks with i5/i7 processors, the performance will be about the same on the Z.

As for WoW, my guess is that it'll run very smooth, even in raids, as long as you don't expect shadows and other demanding settings to be on ultra. A combination of medium-ultra will probably give you some very decent performance.

This should give you an idea: YouTube - Geforce GT330M - Crysis / WoW Test Part 2 & http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jk94lTXq3NI

Remember, though, the resolution is lower than on a Vaio Z; however the CPU is vastly inferior too, so an i5 or an i7 should even it out at 900p or 1080p when keeping in mind how CPU-dependant WoW is.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 runs at med-low settings ~40-45 fps

The GT 330m is a midrange card. Think low-medium settings to run at nice framerates for most newer games.

The performane is decent. The biggest problem is the fact that the screen sucks for competetive online play. A lot of the details you need to be aware of, be it in an RTS or Shooter, are just too small to see and it usually ends up in you getting owned. If you are looking for casual offline play, go for it. Terrible otherwise.

Don't think for a second your going to see well on your radar in starcraft 2!

Not exactly. Sony is throttling the 330M, so you are safer to lookup the WoW performance of a 325M, however that should still be plenty sufficient (if you don't go crazy with the settings). I played WoW pretty well on a laptop with a HD3650, which is about half the power of a 330M.

You could drop the resolution if you can't see the minimap clearly enough. I play well enough in Diamond league at 1600x900 so it's not like it's a hard truth, everyone is different.

Theres a thread on the first two pages somewhere, where we can read that Black-Ops is running just fine (better than WaW)

Well I cant play WoW normally with my Vaio Z. It has lots of fps drops and raiding with low framerate :X

Well I based it on my experience with the 3650 in my T500. Notebookcheck ranks/lists the graphic cards as follows:

I noticed slight lag in 25-Raids ofc and played with lowest detail mostly. The Vaio Z has a 330M, but its throttled to the performance of a 325M roughly, so thats why I included it in the screenshot. Basically the Vaio Z "should" be able to handle WoW (I added a few other games I can play on my rather weak 3650). Not sure why you are having a different experience. :/

I just assumed he'd adjust the clock-rates accordingly since that's probably what most people do, but yeah.

I do not own a Z yet, but I was under the impression Sony throttled the card because otherwise a 330M couldn't operate safely in such a tiny chassis. Do you know if upping the clock-rates voids the warranty?

I honestly doubt Sony bothers checking or is capable of checking in the first place. Just like with most desktop components, unless you increase voltage, you shouldn't void the warranty or even damage the card, from my experience.

Common sense applies, though, as long as you keep temperatures in the safe range and leave the voltage alone, your GPU won't be damaged in the least.

It's not throttled, it's a low voltage 330m that runs at a lower clock. People are overclocking with no issues, search the forum.

Thanks for clarifying, the notebookcheck.net review said otherwise, so I thought thats the case.

Thank you for all the responses and for all the links/benchmarks, it was very helpful.
I don't expect to run WoW on ultra but between med/high since its more of a CPU bound game. But I could work with med settings if doesn't get laggy in 10/25 raid fights.. and if I need to OC the GPU to get it to stop lagging.. well I'm gonna do what I've to..
I'm only gonna have this notebook (no desktop around) for a few months, and even tho it's more of a business directed notebook, I do expect for it to run most of the recent games on low/med settings with an playable average fps.. (especially if Diablo 3 comes out :p)
