Hey, I just got my sony Vaio CTO Z series. I have just used for 3 hours and I can see oily patches on my key area with finger print. I tried heading Sony center to check on there display set, it's horrible as if few thousand people has touched the laptop, all the oily finger print.
Are there any solution to this? I dare not want to use alcohol because it seems the keyboard are quite frigale.
Thanks you answer in advance.

a TPU keyboard cover
-
I don't necessarily have a solution to this... but I was pretty anal about it and learned to just not care. Overtime, the oil will spread across the keys and become invisible. I found that as I kept wiping them off, they just kept coming back.
Other than that, I guess you could try looking for a keyboard cover. Or wash your hands every 15min =) -
just get a tpu/silicon keyboard protector. been using that since the day i got my Z. besides protecting the key from become oily, i can protect the key from dust too..not to mention i had spill plain water on my Z before.. thank God i have the protector. lol
skull333: is that your lan evo x on your avatar? cool -
ok, thanks guys. Where did you order the silicion or tpu cover? Plan to get one.
-
i bought mine from local seller in my country. worry not, you can easily buy thru ebay.
-
Im looking for the TPU cover but seems all seller sale US version keyboard not the UK keyboard version.
Anyone know whereabout please recommend. Thanks -
Anyone have a picture of the Z with a keyboard skin? The ones I have seen are far uglier than oily keys...
-
I've used the silicone covers in the past. Hate them.
I wipe down the keyboard every few days. Seems to work for me. -
@Miyabi Yes that is =) Thanks
As for the cover, I found a website (you might have already seen it) that sells the US version, but maybe you can email them in hopes to find out if they will stock the European version

Marigold Kitchen Gloves : Cleaning Equipment : Cleaning Products
A pair of marigolds are cheaper than the keyboard covers. And you get them in different colours too. -
@ZoinksS2k: What solution do you use to wipe it? I normally just use normal water
-
I'm wiping mine down with skin cleansing alcohol prep swaps about once every week. No problems so far.
-
Eek, never use rubbing alcohol. You will eat away the plastic over time.
At home, I usually spray one or two shots of Windex into a microfiber cloth and wipe down the lid and keyboard. I use non-ammonia based cleaner.
When at work/traveling, I generally just wipe it down with a dry microfiber cloth. I wear glasses, so I have one in my bag at all times. -
Thanks for all who responded. I used screen cleaner to spray my fiber cloth later on I wipe of with a tissue. It solve the problem but is it ok to use screen cleaner spray?
-
Should be, although that stuff is expensive. Ammonia-free glass cleaner is basically the same stuff and much cheaper.

Yes, basically this what happen. For the first time you use alcohol you cant see it's biting on the material. The more often you use it will damage the layer of plastic, metal, screen and so on. Alcohol is a strong substance to wipe out any dirt. Example: Acid rain dont damage a statue for the first rain but slowly it will bite into it.
-
I don't use it at all. I suppose it would be OK on the aluminium parts, but it shouldn't be necessary.
I've used disinfectant wipes a few times, usually when I have a killer cold but very infrequently. -
downside to using keyboard cover is it traps the heat, potentially shortening laptop life. well, at least that's the excuse i have for not using one.
-
The best solution should be Zagg invisible shield for the keyboard.....but thats if and when they do it.
-
Zagg doesn't make keyboard kits. They just do covers for the lid, palmrest and touchpad.
The silicon covers should work OK, but I've always found that they tend to bunch up or add a slippery feel to the keys.
With the way the Z11 is set up, I don't think they would have any impact on heat. -
I tried visiting Zagg website. It has only the nearest model for SZ series. Can i use that on my Z series plamrest cover?
-
I have come to the conclusion that I am the LEAST anal person on this site
I don't use a laptop case or sleeve transporting my z from the office to home (normally I chuck it in the trunk next to my golf clubs). I don't care if the keyboard looks oily. I don't care if it gets scratched up (within reason). I don't care if the life is shortened to 2 years because I'll get a new one.
I must be the "anti-Z" customer? -
