What is the current series of Z laptops made out of?
I hear it is entirely of aluminum and carbon fiber, but I feel the base is made out of plastic. Could you guys tell me what pieces are made of which material?

Anything that's cold to the touch is aluminium.
Anything else is plastic.
The "carbon fibre" lid and bottom is injection molded plastic with a small amount of chopped up recycled graphite. The "premium carbon fibre" lid on some models is just brushed to a different finish. -
just wondering, has it yet been confirmed how much more the "premium carbon fibre" is going to cost compared to the standard?
-
There used to be a $200 price difference, but it has gone up and down many times, and sometimes you could get the "premium" lids for the same price.
The difference is like the difference between aluminium and brushed aluminium.
Is it worth it? Heck no, but "worth it" is meaningless anyhow when buying a Sony laptop or Louis Vitton handbag. You pay extra for the design and brand name, and whether the premium price is something you want to pay is something only you can decide. -
"Worth it" is subjective. The Z uses good materials, but it uses them sparingly.
