Hello everyone. I love the Sony Z but the 1600 resolution is holding me back from recommending to a client because he can't stand those very high resolutions. We purchased a FW series (16.4" w/ 1920 res) and that was too high. 1600x900 looks even worse on a 13 inch.

My question is, is there any resolution options with the Z to go lower?

The SR "Blue Label" series that Sony made for Best Buy is the perfect machine, except the for the fact that it doesn't have dedicated graphics or good battery life. Is there any way to get a Z with the lower resolution?

1920x1080 run at 960x540, perhaps? You'd probably have to "hack" the non-standard resolution, but it would be 100% sharp, as each pixel would consist of four pixels.

Anyhow, high resolution isn't much of a problem as long as you set the DPI correctly. Fonts, icons and widgets all scale, and DPI scaling takes care of the rest. The higher native resolution you have, the less artifacts you get from DPI scaling.

The future is in high DPI displays, where "pixels" loses its meaning, and measurements are physical (mm, points) instead of pixels.

    Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately the DPI doesn't help many apps and zooming should not be requirement when web browsing. I just went through this on an FW series with 1080p resolution. DPI only fixed Windows and some Windows apps. Thing like Picasa, FlipShare and many other apps just don't scale. Web browsing is also terrible. Auto zooming or zooming in when needed just won't work.

High resolution may be ok with many of us, but it sure doesn't work for the older crowd. It's too bad they don't offer it at an option with the Z.

Different strokes for different folks... Sounds like the F, with its big screen, is a better fit for that particular client.
