Thanks for the reply. However, all I can find is a Dell Vista disk. I notice in the first page of the thread you say that these should work, but not if it is a "Custom" OEM Vista disk.

How can I tell if this Dell Vista disk I have has been "customized" by Dell and whether it will work?

There is an issue on my side after the installation of Vista by this manual related to DVD-drive. According to a power scheme my DVD-drive falls to sleep after a minute or two, but it doesn't wake up afterwards. The only way to make it work is to logoff/reset the notebook. Besides, I can't use the eject button that located on one surface with the keyboard either. It tells me that the program cannot open optical drive.

Does anyone has the same problem after the reinstallation? How to fix it? Any proposals?

Hi everyone, i have just finished a clean install of vista ultimate 32bit. I am having problems with the WWAN module. I have installed the globetrotter drivers and the globetrotter connection manager. When i try connecting to my network, the software says that im connected, however when i go on the internet, no pages load up.

Another issue i have is using nvidia's 179.28 drivers, which i had to use the modded INF to install. When they are installed, i cannot use the stamina/ speed switch. It works fine with Sony's drivers but these seem pretty out dated. Anyone experienced something similar?

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks, Ryan

Hi, I recently bought VGN-Z690J and i really dislike vista. So i was wondering if i can use the same method as megaman posted to clean install windows 7RC? although, I was actually thinking if this will work instead since im not using the same version windows.
    1) backup/recovery disc
    2) install win 7RC
    3) download sony drivers from the sony support site
    4)hope everything works.

will this work properly ? or will i get various other problems? I'm trying to think of the easiest way to install windows 7 RC , so i was wondering if my method works.
if anyone tried this please help me out, i need to get rid of this OS lol

Have you thought about partitioning then doing a dual boot instead? Just a suggestion.

Are all the utilities mentioned really necessary? I hate all the Sony "Bling Bling" so I'd like to use as few as possible.

I already made the mistake to install them in the wrong order because some of them sounded unimportant to me. Then I read MegaMans post that this is actually the most important part. It would be good if there is a clear advice in the guide to do so.

Ok, now everything is working except for the Wireless Connection. I downloaded the Intel Driver, but the wireless toggle at the front of the notebook is not working. Windows tells me that Wireless needs to be turned on.

    Anybody has any advice?

okay so all of this is for 32 bit.

would someone mind posting up the same drivers and utilities for 64 bit?

megaman x, i find it strange that you would have this guide at all, and especially no equivalent for 64 bit vista considering that your laptop has 4 gb of ram.

and, what about SATA operation? is it automatically on all you guyses vista 32 bit disks? mine is not detected.
