I was browsing at an online store today and I see that Intel has released 1.8" 160GB drives! These are 5mm thick. Now I have upgraded my Z to a single 160G (2.5") but these should slip right in!
Does anyone know where I can get the required cable and the tray for the z-series notebooks?

    Thanks!

I have a RAID cable and 2-SSD frame for the VGN-Z series.

These are brand new original SONY items, never installed in a notebook, made in Japan and they come in original SONY packaging.

If you want these please send me a PM.

I might be interested if I could find out how to enable the raid option in the Sony Z bios. I have heard that you can downgrade the bios to a point when it was included, but won't this have some adverse effect on the system?
    Thanks

I have the 2x128GB Raid 0, and before that I had a single 200GB HDD 5400RPM drive, and I was able to test and use both drives on the same motherboard.

Once you put in the Raid 0 cable, your current BIOS will actually detect and let you setup the options you needed.

On another note, if you don't need your single HDD bracket + cable, I'd be willing to buy yours if you do indeed decide to Raid your system...I lost mine :(

There is no need to downgrade the BIOS. Once you have two SSDs connected they should be recognized on first boot. To enable/disable the RAID, press F2 (to get into BIOS), go to Advanced tab and set RAID option to "SHOW". Save and reboot. Press CTRL+I quickly when you see Intel Matrix storage manager on next reboot. You can set RAID0, RAID1 or no RAID.
