I wanted to restore my Sony Z only to find out that the first of my recovery DVDs hangs after about 3/4 of the installation.
Would anyone be kind enough burn a set for me? I'm happy to pay something for it (though not the outrageous 40 pounds Sony wants to charge me).
    Location: UK
    Thanks!

This happened to me as well and Sony wouldn't even send me a copy.

It's pretty shoddy that I spent $2k on a Z520 and Sony won't even help.

Meh.... I just used my own copy of Vista and moved on.

The trouble with your solution is only that I'll lose the only two useful programs that come with the Z: Adobe Acrobat and Photoshop Elements...

No one here can legally do what you are asking. The material is copyrighted and as such, copying it is may not be discussed on these forums.

Wouldn't it be legally okay if he has purchased a Z though? Or how does that work.

My experience on (European) Zs: recovery discs made on one machine don't work on another, unfortunately.

No, it would still not be legal. The right to create a recovery disc set does not give a right to transfer copies. The person who gave them to him would be in breech of copyrights, despite the intent being to replace it.

I could care less - if I had working ones I'd give them to the op.

I called sony about this and they didn't want to do anything about it, even though the recovery program "successfully" burned the media (until I needed to recover the system - then it didn't work).

Nice job sony! Not only do you charge more for your systems, but you get less!

    Still love my Z520, though.....

sony..its expensive by its name. :/
about the recovery disc, its not unique from each Z? or its basically same as others. im concern about the license key comes with the recovery disc created.

The recovery disks are unique to each MODEL of machine. For example the ones for a FZ190 won't work with an FZ440. But Miyabi, does have a point. I would assume that the license key is embedded in the recovery disks we create ourselves, because I don't believe the restoration process using those requires manual entry of the key.

But I also know that Sony will sell us a set of recovery disks, but I don't know how the license key issue is handled if you buy a set from Sony. Anyone else know the particulars?
