No, you can also fill up your drives entirely but much worse than suffering from speed degradation is write amplification which wears down your SSDs faster. Speed degradation will be starting at some SSD space occupation percentage, but there are no specific numbers available.

so i got qwaarjet's stock 128 raid0 ssd and installed it onto my HDD-only z and redo windows from scratch, did most of the tweaks mentioned and here are my results:

if you want even more performance, ifyou do the bios mode, disable c-state and you will get a bigger boost in performance. Also, you enabled write back cache in Inte's RST, correct? -
yes, rst is updated to latest version on intel's website, and write cache is enabled
no i havent done the bios mod yet, is it worth taking the plunge?
though im a bit baffled by the low 512k read numbers, should i worry about it?
also, should i disable the pagefile in windows now that i have a ssd? -

Bumping an old thread - apologies. I have one of the original Z's (2010 CTO build, Japan), with a quad 64GB SSD. Pretty sure I've hit the age limit on this Windows install, as stuff just freezes occasionally, and it got far too annoying - then again, 2.5 years of usage.
Read through some threads; is there any consensus on which way is the best? BIOS hack, turn to AHCI and use software RAID in Windows? JBOD through the Intel controller? Or leave it in RAID0 since none of the above make a difference? -
I just rejuvenated my Z11 with 512GB (quad 128 samsung) by deleting the array, setting mode to AHCI, Secure Erase in parted magic 2014.11.19 each of the 4 SSD drives (Took 6 minutes per drive), recreating the array with stripe 128k, back to RAID mode. Installed latest intel RST and turned on the write back cache. Now I get benchmark results in line with the best ones in this thread. Hope this answers the question above: leave in RAID0 after rejuvenation.
@Qwaarjet: I have the BIOS mod already: so is it really worthwhile to disable the C-state? Any disadvantage?
