That's just phenomenal performance, TRIM or not.
When I get the new Z11, I'm going to try some basic testing with a clean Win 7 install and using the 9.6 drivers at the F6 prompt.
Seriously doubt there will be any performance difference, but if you want a clean drive, that would be one way of doing it. Might do some partition alignment testing as well.

Core i5 540M
8GB RAM
256 Quad SSD (Intel 9.6)
-
You probably just blew Window's tiny little mind
If those numbers are 7.6, there is no such thing as 7.9
-
crrection, the 256GB is dual, not quad.
-
Strangely enough, these are the highest numbers I've seen around here and strangely enough they are from the dual 256gb...
-
I'm assuming he purchased his vaio z in hong kong so it would indeed be quad raid unlike the ones in north america.
-
The asian 256gb ssd's r quads and the US one's are dual though
-
No, it's the European version. It's Quad (4x64)
-
It's pretty clear from the numbers that it is a quad.
(I wish I had a quad
)
Next project: We need to get more of the 64GB drives and make 512GB that way, can anyone say 64x8 RAID!
-
Sorry, there are only 6 SATA ports on the HM57
-
OK fine, you've convinced me... 64x6 RAID it is then. If 600MB/s was achieved by one person on one benchmark, I'm holding that out as the gold standard.
Therefore on a x6 RAID it'll be... lets see cross out the one, carry the two... whew! 900MB/s.
-
Hey Guys .. look at this !
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3eFgClKGMc -
Now that's reasonable, possibly even doable although we are getting dangerously near SATA saturation already.
Placed on the future projects list.
-
According to Intel's HM57 Technical Document:
http://www.intel.com/Assets/PDF/datasheet/322169.pdf
It seems 6*SSD is not supported by Intel RST (with the current RAID controller chipset)... -
Yup.
It also says:
-
So the mainboard does have 6 SATA ports, which allows you to run non-RAID drive architectures such as JBOD, but as the Intel ICH8M-E/ICH9M-E I/O Controller Hub (the RAID controller) does not support more than 4 drivers forming RAID 0, it seems you would not succeed forming a 6*SSD RAID unless you use some other controllers, e.g. a hardware RAID card (currently no mobile chipset supports more than 4 drives in RAID 0).

I'm sorry if this has already been covered, but I'm having a difficult time finding the Intel Rapid Storage Driver (9.6 version). Could someone post a link for me? I'm guessing it will give installation instructions on the download page? My Z should be here in the next 3 hours... I've been getting all my driver updates ready.
-

STOR_allOS_9.6.0.1014_PV.exe should the driver to install. -
That link gives me a "Download Not Found" page. Got another?
-
Sorry, wrong link. Try again. It should work this time.
-
Thanks, perfect!
-
what r the 2 zip files for? thx
-
I don't know. I didn't install them. It may have something to do with the use of floppy disks when you don't have OS installed yet. Someone here might know, but as for my laptop, I checked the readme file (section 6) and confirmed that the driver has successfully installed into my laptop.
-
The zips are indeed for installing with Windows. As it says "F6 driver diskette", meaning that you have to hit F6 to specifically give Windows the drivers upon install.
-
Not sure why this is so complicated, but here:
99.9% of you need this file:
STOR_allOS_9.6.0.1014_PV.exe - Windows installer. Use this to upgrade your existing Windows 7 installation to use RST 9.6
Is you are installing Windows from DVD, you can use these to update the driver. This is optional, you can install the package above after you complete your install.

Maybe a stupid question, but how do you guys have triple/quad ssd (not configurable on sonystyle.com)?
-
Well, if you order the 128GB model it comprises two 64GB drives so is dual.
All the others are combinations of either all 64GB or all 128GB drives (no mixing 'cause is raid 0) -
Look at the link in my signature. It shows the various SSD makeups in the US and Canada.
-
Never mind...
-
OK thanks. That makes sense.
-
I am curious; should I shut off the defragment schedule completely or will Windows be able to tell that my raid volume consists of SSDs w/ IRST 9.6 drivers?
-
Kill the defrag schedule.
-
win 7 is supposed to detect that you have an SSD and switch defrag off.
how you know it has done this, i'm not sure. -
right click the SSD and in properties tab you can set the schedule under defrag
ive had my drive for almost 2 weeks and the schedule was set to ON defrag every wednesday but it has never run.... last defrag was reported as NEVER
so i guess win7 does know, but i shut off the schedule anyways -
I'm putting your matrix on the front page. +1 rep for creating the list.
-
I did have an earlier one I made up (before anyone had received the Z) which showed logical *and* physical drive makeup, but I'm not sure if that might be more confusing than it has to be.
-
Maybe post it in the RAID/JBOD thread so people know the options?

Hi All,
First of all sorry for my very bad english. I try my best to not write mistake.
I'm reading a lot of things about the Intel RST 9.6. There are many different point of view about the TRIM support through a RAID 0.
Is TRIM support on the new vaio with quad SSD in raid 0?
Is there any other solution to recover performance from the quad ssd?
Is there any utility which can do that?
What is Garbage Collection?
Thank you for your answer. -
Sorry if this has been asked before but are the quad drives the same physical size as the US dual HDs? Could you make a US Z a Quad Core and boost it to 1 TB?
-
how do you post it like that instead of the way mine looks?
-
about 1) the last news is that 9.6 doesn't support TRIM
about 4) I really suggest you to go to the first page because is very well explained.
about 2) and 3) i really dont' know...i hope yes because my Z is coming in Italy (that's why my english is worst than yours...) from Amsterdam...but i'm pretty sure that some Pro/Ace laptopSDman will explain us (soon or later) how...
stay tuned.... -
Here's a comparison between the 2x64GB and 4x128GB
-
Sure about that? The documentation still seems to say it does for RAID 0 and the only contradicting evidence has been an article in another blog.
Did I miss something in the formidable saga that is "TRIM on RAID" ? -
Woohoo! Just received my new Z!
Will be running some tests on my 512 GB SSD (2x256GB) and post it on here.
