    Hi all,

I'm having an issue with my Z11...I was using it one day when it randomly shut down. I started it up again, and after it booted up to the Win7 screen, it shut down again.

Now, I can get it to boot up, but it shuts down after roughly 60 seconds, and then subsequent boots shut down after about 15-20. There are no apparently hardware issues, so at this point, I can only think of a virus.

I need help getting this back on track, so I turn to you all, as you've been excellent in assistance in the past. What should I do here? I'm guessing I should format my HD and rebuild. I'm unable to restore Windows, as the laptop shuts down early on in the process. I'm not positive I have a virus (I normally have that thing on lockdown), and if I do, I'm not sure which one it'd be.

Any help you can provide, I greatly appreciate. Thanks for reading.

    -John

The number one suspect is the cooling system. Fan failure, blockage of air vents due to dust, thermal paste dried out, etc. Open the back, give it a good cleaning, and check again. (Be careful cleaning the fans - the blades are delicate and break rather easily). There are threads that tell you how to change the thermal paste, but I'm betting just the dust removal will do the trick.
