    Hi everyone,

After having a sony TT for some time, I decided to get a something with a larger screen so I recently got a toshiba r700. I love everything about it except the fan noise. Unfortunately, it even runs when it is in idle. My tt is pretty silent when browsing web, writing docs etc. So now I'm looking at a vaio Z. How is fan noise on that one ? Is it easily noticable in a silent enviroment ? I would love to get some feedback especially if there is anybody who had a chance to compare both laptops.

I just got a new z13 with the i7, had to send it back due to fault on the hard drive but thenoise was quite interusive.
The fan can be quite loud and does ramp up a lot depedngin on what your doing but what bothered me the most was the processor noise, all computer have some operating noise, i am currently using a dell netbook as a temporary solution and it has a sort of low hum, however my z13 made a more high pitch noise from the moment you turned it on which will not to nad during the day was evry noticable in quite environments.

I have a z12 and a toshiba. I must admit, I am not a stickler for fan noise but I noticed that my z12 runs a little quieter .

    I checked a co-worker's R700 earlier...
When at idle the R700 is really quiet, like the fan is missing altogether (strange that the OP's one isn't)
When at max power the Toshiba is louder.
The Z13 is all around quiet but will ramp up if needed. At normal read/use distance the Z13 is quiet. If we go full power we'll hear it too.

My Z11 is quiet so I don't know what you all are talking about.
Of course at load it is noticeable but hardly annoying.

Like the posters above, my Z13 is normally silent. In fact, I'm often surprised by how it can stay so quiet whilst expelling quite a lot of hot air.

From posts above definatly makes me think my z13 was faulty as it was never silent even when booting to windows. It will be interesting to see what the SA is like with new chipsets.

well accroding to notebookcheck.net Z is not very quite as well. I guess this is something subjective as a lot of people find my r700 extremely quite although i think it is quite noisy. I think I will wait for next gen chipsets
