    hi all,

cant believe I am typing this, but I think I have come across a bizarre problem.

I have a macbook pro, a new z17, plus a t-series. The Z is a recent acquisition and I have been using infrequently. Recently i started having internet connectivity issues, but I didnt think there was any connection.

I replaced my existing modem/router combo with a new one, but the problems persisted. I then realised the problems have increased in proportion to my use of the Zseries. So, I decided to test my theory. Sure enough, shutting down the Sony fixes the internet connection. Start it up and within 5-30 mins and I usually lose connectivity and it doesnt return until i shut down the Sony.

I am using latest nod32 antivirus with sw firewall enabled on vista.

regardless of modem, I am using an Apple Time Capsule for my wireless connectivity which is obviously the only way to connect the Sony as it doesnt have an rj45 port.

Any thoughts appreciated as I am completely stumped with this one ...

    thanks
    Tony

Let me restate this because I am not very clear. When the Sony logs onto the internet, the whole internet/network foes down? or is it only on the sony, and everything else is ok? I believe it is the first, but I just want to make sure. If so, you can always try a linux live cd and connect to the internet to see if its a driver issue. Hope to help, good luck.

why doesn't your Z have a rj45 port? shouldn't it be on the left hand side near the battery?
or doesn't every Z have this as standard?

anyway my advice would be to strip evreything from the wireless system and run the Z all on its own - if that is possible. i'm curious if you may be having compatability issues between the apple and the pc as well

It does... it's just that it's covered by a small plastic dust-cap. It's immediately adjacent to the power socket on the left hand side of the Z. Look carefully and you'll find it. You might need to pry it open gently with your finger nail - there should be a small gap at the top of the flap to allow this.

Once you've found your ethernet port, see if you still get problems with your internet. If so, I'm guessing there's a weird PPoE setting in your Z which is confusing the modem. If not, then look to wireless for the source of your woes... ;)

    Hope this helps!
