    Hi,

I just got a CTO Z590 2.4 GHZ, 3 GB ram, Vista Business "Fresh Start". I'm getting a feel for its performance.

When I attempt to play a HD video with my from within IE, Chrome, Firefox, or quicktime at full screen the video is choppy, less than 10fps. I've got the newest versions of webbrowers, flash, and quicktime.

    Here are some examples:

    http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy...e-total-war-road-to-independence-trailer?hd=1

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b48hKfiTWbI&feature=hd

    http://www.apple.com/trailers/sony_pictures/2012/

BTW I've let the videos buffer so internet connection isn't an issue, and I'm in "speed" mode.

I'm upgrading from 6 year old 1.4Ghz Athlon, so I had expected the Z590 wouldn't have a problem, am I expecting too much?

Do others have an issue with these videos?

Should I make use of my XP downgrade disk?

Thanks for any info in advance!

    -Brandon

No problem here with all 3. Which video card do you have? Do you have the latest driver from Sony?

Hi Vast, and welcome to the forums!
Your hardware shouldn't be the issue as I have similar components on my Asus U6. Try install all the critical updates from microsoft if you have not done so already. In addition, check to see if you have any bloatware that is running in the background. You could also install the latest gpu driver from laptopvideo2go and see if that helps with your HD videos.

Thanks! I've leerked on these forums for a while and was a crucial information source for my laptop buying decision!

I've got a GeForce 9300M GS w/ 256MB dedicated memory. Stock Z590 configuration. The installers for drivers on laptopvideo2go (180.70) and NVIDIA (179.28) say "The NVIDIA setup could not locate any drivers that are compatable with your current hardware."

However, it looks like I have the latest driver for this card, Sony has a special version:

Hmm... that's interesting. Does Sony have an older driver? Maybe you could give that a try that too.

Doh! That was it! The video is smooth now.

Guess it is obvious this is my first laptop! :)

Looks like I gotta find a different reason to downgrade to XP.

    Thanks everyone for your time!

I've only used vista for 24 hours, I turned off indexing, aero UI, set high performance, and it seems to run ok now. Just trying to find reasons why I hate Vista. I've been looking very hard but cant find any yet.

However, I am upgrading from a 1.4ghz athlon desktop, so maybe when I downgrade to XP it won't run ok, it will run excellent! So I gotta give it a try!

I don't care about the real-time speed/stamina switch, or fingerprint reader, so I don't think I'll lose out on anything with the downgrade, right?

    No.

But you will boot and hibernate twice as fast.

I ran Xp on the Z and it was very fast. I also like the faster menus.

2 most important issues, in this order, for high fps playback on a laptop for internet video are:

    1) cpu processing speed (set to max performance and have laptop plugged in)
    2) internet connection
