Sony Z610Y upgrade to SSD

Hi I am new at this forum.
Just bought the Z610Y from BB and would like to upgrade to Samsung 64gb SSD SLC. I am thinking of upgrading to only one SSD not 2 SSDs with RAID. Has someone succesfully upgrade this particular model's HDD to SSD? Z610Y has 125mb of Nvidia graphic and Z690 CTO has the 256mb graphic memory. Are these two model have the same type of motherboard? I know that some members in this forum have the Z690 and they could upgrade to SSD. I think my Z has the same motherboard as the Z540, I am not sure whether my Z can be upgraded to SSD. Please give advice on this. Thanks.

 

All Z models have the same in hardware, so yes it can be upgraded. If I were to upgrade it to an SSD though, I would probably have gone for the cheapest model possible like a Z530 and not a Z610Y, in my opinion.

 

I bought the Z610Y because it comes with the Vista ultimate 64bit and 4GB of memory. BTW, can someone tell me what is the best method to install vista into a new SSD? Can I use the sony recovery disc to install? The SSD is new so there is no OS in it. Could someone post a step by step instructions on installing the OS into a new SSD with the sony recovery disc? There is a pictoral postin in this forum on the proper way to open the Z. I recommend printing the image and putting the screws on the printout to make sure you know where they go when you put the machine back together.

Nobody is going to write a step by step for the recovery disc, er, recovery. Just put the DVD's in, boot, and follow directions.

There are, however, many detailed threads on installing OS'es cleanly.

 

Thanks for the answer. I created the recovery DVD disk using the Sony recovery software and I got 3 DVDs before doing the upgrade. After installing the SSD I tried to boot using the DVD that I just created but nothing happened. Just curious. Anybody in this forum after installing the SSD use the recovery disc to install the original factory OS and did it successfully? Thanks.

 

Yes, I have put in two SSD's in my Z. First an 80GB Intel x25 and now a 256GB Patriot v3. Only problem was blue screens on Windows install (both Vista and Windows 7). Setting the bios to defaults resolved this with both drives. While troubleshooting, I ran the recovery and it installed on the new drives perfectly.

The first disk should load up the Vista installer. You get to choose the action (repair, recover, etc) once it starts up. You need to hit a key when it asks if you want to boot from CD\DVD. If it isn't asking, you should:

1. check the bios for boot order
2. burn the disk again

In short, I'd double check your DVD's on another system or burn another set.
