Important Update for the VAIO® S Notebook Computers
    Posted: 12/19/2005

    Dear Valued Sony® VAIO® Customer:

Thank you for your support and patronage of Sony products.

It has recently come to our attention that a limited number of VAIO S-series computers may exhibit the following:

The system either fails to boot or sporadically shuts down.

We believe the following models may be impacted:

    VGN-S150/S150P (PCG-6C2L)
    VGN-S170/S170B/S170P (CTO) (PCG-6C1L)
    VGN-S260/S260P (PCG-6D2L)
    VGN-S270/S270B/S270P (CTO) (PCG-6D1L)

If you own one of these models and experience this symptom, please contact Sony at our technical support phone number 1-888-790-7669 (Hours 9:00AM - 11:00PM EST 7 days/week). If it is determined that your product is among those impacted, then Sony will extend your Sony limited warranty on your motherboard for one additional year.

For service within the scope of this limited warranty, Sony will make arrangements to ship your product to us. We will repair it and have it returned to you at no charge. All components other than the motherboard will be subject to the standard limited warranty provided with the unit.

    Sincerely,

    Sony Electronics Inc.

Q2. Is my existing motherboard safe to use?
    A2. Yes.

Q3. How will I handle shipping my notebook to Sony?
A3. Call 1-888-790-7669 and Sony will make arrangements to send you a complimentary Federal Express box with a pre-paid shipping return label.

Q4. Will I lose any data due to this issue?
