Just wanted to mention this oddity in case anyone else becomes confused about it, like I was.

I keep battery care at 80%. Suddenly the system started charging the battery to 100% and kept charging the battery (even when at 100%). "Enable battery care" had been turned off, and I tried to turn it on, but whenever I went back to the control center, it was off again.

It seems that the battery was doing some form of calibration: I ran the battery down to 0 and charged it up again, and now it's working again: i.e. I can now enable battery care, and it stops charging at the appropriate %.

I don't have an accurare record of no of discharge cycles but it might have happened after 100 or so. So, if it happens to you, don't think that the control center has stopped working, it's just the battery calibrating itself!

I have the same issue as the OP. I set the battery care to either 50% or 80%. When the laptop cold boots back into the OS, it ignores the battery care setting and continues charging upto 100%. I have to go into VAIO CONTROL CENTRE and have to have the BATTERY CARE page showing before the battery actually stops charging (if it hasn't already stopped at 100%).

This also happens when the battery care setting is ACTIVE. So, if I put my machine to sleep with charging stopped at 50%, when wakes up it starts charging past 50% again, despite battery care being set at 50%. Again, charging stops once I enter VAIO CONTROL CENTRE and enter the BATTERY CARE page.

It seems to be a bug; a notice a process that starts when I navigate to the BATTERY CARE page. Noticed this happening when I updated numerous crucial software (event servce to name a few). This was a good 8 months ago, and I've been telling myself to reinstall a fresh windows installation as my current OS is now over 2 years old...

I'm expecting the bug to be eliminated once I install my older crucial drivers (and I stay away from the so-called updated drivers). Though I may try installing said drivers and see what the effect is on a clean OS install.

Haven't tried draining all the way to 0%; will consider when I am able to dedicate some time.

EDIT - I should add that since updating the said software / drivers, the power plans on my VGN-Z have also gone belly-up too, along with the already mentioned battery care issue. So, if I come off AC power onto battery power the screen doesn't dim (despite it being set to do so). And vice versa with screen not automatically getting brigher when going onto AC. So I'm guessing it's something to do with a recent update and / or bug.

^ That's a slightly different issue from mine. On mine, setting "enable battery care" did absolutely nothing - after turning it on I would go back to the setting and the check-box was off again.

The "battery care" option seems to be an option recorded within the battery (I didn't realise the battery was so sophisticated, but this makes sense given it functions correctly when the PC is off), as when I changed the battery with a spare, it showed battery care as "on" and was working correctly. Therefore, when the battery decides it needs to recalibrate, it just ignores any "battery care" request.

Thank you so much! I had this exact same issue (first time it happened since 2010, on my second battery) and your solution worked 100%
