    My Laptop model
    Sony eSupport - SVF15A15CDB - Support
    (VAIO® Fit Laptop
    Model # SVF15A15CDB)

This persons issue is similar to my own.
Sony battery care function is not working after Windows 7 Upgrade - Microsoft Community

Basically, I used my laptop with stock software and set the battery to 80% using the Sony Battery Care function. After a few months I was not satisfied with the speed of the HDD so I installed an SSD. Every piece of software installed with no apparent issue. I noticed my battery was stuck at 80% so I went into the old battery care section. There is no option to set it to 50/80/100%.

I would have thought a new SSD and OS would wipe away my previous settings, but I suppose it is saved internally on hardware such as the mobo or battery itself?

Does anyone have any suggestions? I just want the option to have 100% battery life.

Yes those settings are stored independent of OS.

On my vaio, battery care function is accessed through the "vaio control center" software, under power management > advanced.

    1. are you saying you reinstalled "vaio control center" and the option is not there?

    2. your link to MS community is correct. vaio software/library/dll's have to be installed in the correct order for everything to work. you might try to figure out the install order and reinstall.

    3. or just swap your old HDD back in and change the setting.

Yea, I re-installed and the option is not there.

Is there no other way to just reset that setting? I've spent a lot of time trying different install orders and I don't seem to be much closer to fixing it.

I'd put the HDD back in but it was accidentally wiped clean. :)( ) I suppose I could just use the restore disc, but they aren't with me atm. I'll have access to them in a few months when I go back home.

This is a very odd problem and I kinda brought it upon myself with weird decisions and circumstances.

If you have any other suggestions I'll try them. Do you think there are any hardware things I could try like resetting the CMOS battery or something? I just never thought it would carry over through installing new OS's.

I don't know about your model but in mine I need to install in this order:
    1. Windows 7
    2. Intel Chipset
    3. Nvidia Graphics
    4. Audio
    5. Ethernet
    6. MS Card
    7. SD Card
    8. Pointing Device
    9. Sony Firmware Extension
    10. Bluetooth
    11. Intel ME
    12. Intel Wireless
    13. Turbo Boost
    14. TPM (if needed)
    15. Setting Utility Series
    16. Sony Shared Library
    17. VAIO Event Services
    18. VAIO Control Center
    19. Battery Checker
    20. VAIO Location Utility
    21. VAIO Power Management
    22. VAIO Smart Network
    23. VAIO Update
    24. Protector Suite

Several of these need special permissions and compatibility modes. Can you find a clean install guide for your model and follow those instructions?

I think I've read everything there is to read about this and I've had no luck finding a workaround.

someone posted something here. I tried the disconnect power, hold button thing - didn't work.
Because I dual boot, I tried the linux commands. didn't work for me, but might be worth a try for you, using a ubuntu linux live cd.
Another thing I read was someone saying try and older version of vaio control center.
Another thought, maybe try resetting bios to default, even though battery care is not listed as an option.

I vaguely remember having a problem with this when I was figuring out how to do a clean install of Windows 8. Note: this is for my system - VPCZ1.
Installed stock VAIO Control Centre. Rebooted.
Installed VAIO Control Center Update EP0000227805.exe in compatibility mode for Windows 7 and as administrator. Rebooted.
    Installed Battery Checker. Rebooted.

Haven't had a problem since - despite several installs of Windows 8 64 bit and now Windows 8.1 and Windows 8.1 update 1.

Try temporarily turning off UAC before you do the above. Might help.

BTW. why do you want to disable this very useful feature? Not charging the battery to 100% is very good for the battery - it will last much longer. I use the 50% setting while I'm at home, and change to the 80% setting while travelling. After more than 4 years my battery shows 18.5% wear, which, I'm told, is pretty good going.
