Does Sony always make sure that every computer they sell is updated and has the latest drivers for there computers? Like on there download driver page for each notebook it does show a list of drivers but are the the best and the latest?

I use the OS that came with the system so are the divers there all up to date? Or for example do I need to search for the latest drivers from like Realtek for the sound card and Intel.com for video card? My sound card is Realtek HD audio and the video card is Intel HD. I just want to make sure that Sony is always updating there website so I can get the best drivers for video, sound card etc.

Sony doesn't update the hardware drivers frequently, you are on your own.

So basicly I need to look at the model of my sound card video card etc and goto the manufatures website like Intel or Realtek and download there drivers? Since it seems like you guys are saying that Sony doesn't do a good job on updating drivers on there esupport website.

I thought Sony is a good company and they always update there esupport website often so it's the latest. But am I wrong and I need to search for latest drivers myself?

You don't need to update the hardware drivers frequently, unless you have issues.

You need to search for updated drivers yourself, not the hardest thing to do.

    Sony is terrible for drivers.

Go look at older models in their support site and see just how frequently the drivers are updated. Not very.

That being said, however, there are some really bright people on these forums that can point you in the right directions for current drivers.

Well is this true that having the latest drivers for anything will have better performance? Like if you have the latest video driver that will help the game performance to be better? Or if you have the latest sound card driver it will have more features and better sound.

I just heard some people said that it's always best to have the latest drivers to help not just issues but also performance.

Yes, that's often true and yes, especially so with video drivers.

That is one thing that drives people crazy about Sony, the lack of updated video drivers (at least for the Z line).

But maybe I am wrong and having latest drivers only fix issues that older versions had but doesn't help performance at all.

Oh looks like someone posted the same time I did lol.

Well what about the VPC series like my VPC-EB3QFX

Yes, for instance updated video drivers usually have better performance.

I wonder what Sony thinks when they read such feedback. Maybe they block their ears and go "La la la". Maybe they go "that's impossible our drivers are perfect the first time!" Or maybe they don't even have anyone looking at feedback.

Ok this is soo funny but I found a driver that was made this month for the Intel HD and the latest drivers from Sony is exactly one year agao so it's old. Also the sound card driver was old also.

But one thing that was strange is that I had to uninstall the old video driver in order to install the new driver but I wonder why? It said to get drivers from manufacture. But I hope I didn't mess up the system since it seemed like the video driver was OEM that came with my notebook. Also my netbook said the same thing so I had to do the same thing in order to update the driver to Intels latest.

If your laptop ONLY has an Intel GPU, then simply install the latest driver from Intel.

    Otherwise... it's complicated :)p).

Well it did install perfectly fine after I uninstalled the old OEM driver that Sony had. It seems like everything looks and works great I didn't have any problems installing the new driver from Intel. Also I have no error messages at all after I reboot my system.

What is strange is that for the audio driver I didnt have any message saying that I had to install OEM driver from Sony so I didn't have to uninstall the old driver in order to install the new one from Realtek. So now I have the latest for video and audio so that's good.

Yes my GPU is only Intel HD it doesn't have that hybrid thing. So maybe that's why everything works fine but I wonder why it said I needed to install driver from manufacture even if Intel drivers work fine.

I also found out that even my Toshiba netbook said the same exact thing about getting drivers from Toshiba. But if I uninstall the OEM drivers and then reinstall the new one it works fine. It seems like Sony and Toshiba want no one to install drivers that are not from them. But I don't know if that is the real reason.

Toshiba, Sony and Panasonic in general, want to control the drivers more closely. I know they opted OUT of AMD's driver program, I don't know if Intel offered the same thing.

Well I did talk to Sony and they said that they made there drivers to work best for there machines meaning the drivers have been tweaked to make the programs and hardware that is on the computer to work right. They said if I install generic drivers it will likely have some issues even if I don't see any now they said it's recommended to use OEM drivers.

I would rather have no problems than having some problems but has better graphics or so. It's not worth getting into trouble with programs or hardware. So I did put back my OEM drivers so I know I' am safe.

Unless Sony is lieing to me but I do want to have trouble free systems so I want to know what is best. But so far Sony is saying that I need to use there drivers since they been customized to work best for each system.

So OEM drivers are not made best for each systems? Like certain drivers that Sony makes is best for each model they make? I just don't want to mess up my system and have technical problems just because I installed generic drivers and not OEM drivers like from Sony or Toshiba.

If you guys really know forsure I won't have problems then I can reinstall the drivers from Intel and Realtek again but I need to know forsure I won't have problems in the long run. I would rather be safe than sorry. But as I said if you know forsure I won't have problems then I can install them again.

I guess I could ask this but does everyone here use OEM drivers or does eveyone use generic drivers like from Intel, Realtek, Nvidia, etc? Basicly do most of you guys use sites like Welcome to NVIDIA - World Leader in Visual Computing Technologies or others like it to download the drivers? If so do you have any problems? How long have you been using them?

    Thanks

    TOO MANY POSTS

I suggest you if you have more to say you edit your last post and add stuff to it.

I use as few drivers from Sony as possible. I always get updated drivers from Intel, nVidia etc.

Well if it's totaly ok to use Intel or other drivers I will download them again. But before I install them again if the worst case I have problems with the generic drivers will this effect my hardware like would it cause my computer to brake down or overheat etc? I want to take care of my system and make sure it will last long time.

OEM's like Sony don't make drivers, the hardware manufacturer does, the OEM's only distribute the driver. You can't mess up anything by installing drivers directly from the hardware manufacturer.

Note: Why do you keeping asking the same question over and over?

That might be the case, but OEMs often customise their hardware and the OEM drivers are therefore customised to match. This is especially true for laptops.

dustin_broke: installing an incorrect driver does not usually result in catastrophe - you just uninstall it and go back to your old driver. If necessary, reboot in safe mode and uninstall the driver. Worst case, complete system recovery/ reinstalling Windows will fix everything.
