Has anyone bothered to make a list of what Sony downloads it is safe to upgrade, no matter which computer it is for, and which ones should not be upgraded?

I have been testing with my Sony VPCZ1390X for 2 days now, and I have mixed results. For best compatibility, I have been borrowing from the next Z series, namely VPCZ214GX.

Software, like WebCam Companion® 4 Software, usually install fine.

Some packages install straightaway, with no complaints, such as:
    Sony Shared Library
Sony® Firmware Extension Parser Device Driver
    VAIO® Event Service Update

Not only do these install, but when I try to revert to the original, nothing seems to happen (and when I try to install after unpacking with Universal Extractor, it refuses to because I have a "newly" version installed).

Some packages refuse to install straightaway, like Sony® Notebook Utilities, but each component installs separately after being extracted. Some of these seem to agree with the old Vaio, like Battery Checker, but some of them are working, even though are obviously for another machine, such as the VAIO® Control Center, which claims I can disable the trackpad with Fn+F1.

So, does anyone know what is safe and wise to update, and what isn't? We sure know Sony doesn't care.
