I just got my SZ110 repaired through Sony Service - the laptop is no longer under factory warranty.

For a flat rate of $296 they replaced the DVD burner, the cooling fan, the battery, part of the case that had cracked, and a few of the little rubber feet on the bottom.

That seems like a pretty good deal to me.

    DVD Burner = $39.99
    OEM Sony Battery = $55.88
    Cooling Fan = for CPU = $50.00 / for Notebook = <$10.00
Case = $80.00 for the most expensive case part (LCD bezel, everything else like palmrests are about $10.00 to $20.00)
    Plastic Feet = $5.00

Total for most expensive parts = ~$230.00
Totle for least expensive parts (replacement palmrest and motherboard fan as opposed to LCD bezel and CPU fan) = ~$120.00

you decide if it was a good deal.

Could you please let me know where the parts are available at the prices you quote? I have another Sony laptop that needs repair and if I can get parts as cheap as you found, I might be able to do some of it myself. I searched before sending mine in for repair and could not find prices close to what you did. Thanks.

I've yet to find any deals like that on genuine Sony batteries. I just sold my extended BPL8 battery for the FZ series for $170 and at that price, it sold in less than 24 hours on EBAY.

And for your price you get the work done by someone thats done the job before and a 6 month warranty on parts and labour. No way you would get a genuine sony battery for $55.88, beware if it does claim to be genuine for that price and look out for sparks, flames, acid and shrapnel ;)
