Ok the thing is that i have a brand new sony sz 450 , and it has some problems , in most cases it takes the computer 4 minutes just to shut down , programs keep freezing. I live in iceland so i cant just return it (bought it in usa). my question is this , will my problems go away if i switch to XP ?

second , will i loose guarantee if i switch os?

what drivers should i use (i have no disks) , does the drivers for sz 3xx work for the sz 450?

please give me your oppinion of what you would do , help needed bad :(

Your problems will go away if you do a clean install. Xp or Vista.

XP is a little bit faster than Vista.

    Your warranty stays afaik.

There's lots of info on this forum on doing a clean install.

well 2 options: buy a legal copy (XP or Vista) or download from the web illegal.

You don't need a recovery disk. Drivers can be downloaded from Sony's website.

There are a couple of thread's about doing a clean install on your SZ.

    Good luck.

I am warning you if you load XP expect no real support from Sony except to be told to reformat and restore the original Vista install. Then you will get support.
This goes for installing your own copy of Vista too.
Sony VAIOs are loaded with boatloads of Sony proprietary apps and drivers which enable the functionality of the system.

As long as you install all the drivers and the various apps which enable things like the FN keys, power management etc, the folks at Sony will still provide support. Now having said that, their typical first suggestion is to restore from the recovery disks. If I get one of the 1st tier support folks who is a "robot" and only works from the script, I either lie to them and say I already did that, or insist on talking to a second tier person. If I get a "non" robot, I will explain I did a clean install with all the drivers utilities etc.

Either way I have been able to get some real support, especially at the second tier. But I will tell you I make damn sure I put on my happy voice (even if I am not) and if I am insistent on going to tier 2 I do so WITHOUT being nasty about it.

Check out the thread linked in my signature. It's a great way to rid yourself of all that bloatware.
