In July I purchased a Sony VAIO FZ11L from the Exeter Comet store for £799 (approximately $1600). I expected and paid for a premium product. From new it would crash when playing games, showing a Memory Parity Error.

Sony maintains that this is a software problem caused by Vista, and won't touch the machine. Comet believe that Sony's word is God. I'm stuck in the middle with a useless computer and no choice but to publish my problem on the web.

I did post about the problem here and was advised that it appeared to be a hardware error. Unfortunately, Sony disagreed! I'll keep everyone updated with the progress.

I would recommend downloading and using MemTest86...it can verify the functionality of your RAM (or lack of functionality rather).

In the meantime, tell Sony/Comet that since Vista was an OEM install on an OEM computer...they are required to support it! Not to mention you'll be calling you CC company about it.

    Hi there,

I've tried MemTest86 and Vista's own memory testing tool. Both are coming up clean. :(

I will try the OEM tack tomorrow!

    Thanks very much,

    David.
