Basically after ordering my lappy, they require further info so they want me to fax them:

"- a recent statement for the card you used to place the order. Please note that the first and last two digits of the card should be visible in the statement.

    - a utility bill or driver's license or other proof of residence"

I have a bank statement I can fax them, however I don't have a utility bill or driver's license (just turned 17, and im in college).

what can i send them instead for "proof of residence?"

Why not contact your bank and have them verify for you? ;)

what do i say? ask them to contact sony to verify it? because i've already contacted my bank before to actually allow me to do the transaction... now sony itself wants further confirmation..

Might be worth a shot. I would check with an account person inside the branch. Maybe they could draft a short letter for you? If you do, first contact Sony and obtain contact info from a specific person who can deal with your order. This way you have all the info on hand if you do go the bank route. Perhaps they can fax the notice to the rep @ sony.

Proof of residence might also include a statement from the landlord if you are renting, a statement from the college if you are residing on campus, etc. Check with the sony rep for clarification.

Sony is just trying to verify. Its not uncommon. Get them on the line and explain your situation and ask them exactly what they need/will accept.

I had the same problem with I ordered my X series. I just took a photo of a credit card statement that showed my name and address and e-mailed it to them.

They e-mailed me and said my order was on hold and I need to call them. After I spoke to them, they said I can take a pic of the statement and mail it to [email protected]

This was the mail I got:
