I'm planning to order an S580, but this article is pretty discouraging. I'd be getting the two-year accidental damage warranty. In the event of a problem I need to be sure I don't spend too long without my notebook, as I'll be using it for a variety of projects that won't stand much downtime.

I'd appreciate it if current Sony owners could comment on their support experience, from getting necessary drivers and updates to dealing with defective parts and accidental damage. Have you used the internet, telephone, or the Sony store for service? Have you had to send your notebook back, or swap and ship replacement parts? What's the turnaround like? Have you taken advantage of an accidental damage plan or other extended warranty? Do you deal with the same folks for the standard warranty and the extended warranties, or do you get another standard of service when you've purchased extra coverage?

Thanks in advance for any information,

    Songdog

Bumping because I'm thinking of buying before the free shipping offer expires. Has no one reading this dealt with Sony support? I suppose that would be good news too ...
