I agree it SHOULD install, I was curious why you seemed to think there was a NEED to install it.

RE: Win7, no I don't. But you didn't answer my other questions. What model does the BIOS report as the model of your machine? What is the model associated with the Sony package you are trying to install?

Sorry I didn't see that reply before my last post. That is the BIOS version, NOT the model number.

The model number is what the installer compares against, not the BIOS Version.

VGNSR490J. I had remote support from Sony. They didn't managed to help to solve that annoying "model" problem.

Thats the actual model number the BIOS reports, no extraneous characters or anything else? I am asking this because I recall someone here having a similar issue where the model number in the bios was screwed up and it caused the updaters to reject.

And what about the installer package are you 100% certain it is for this specific model? (By any chance have you tried unpacking the installer and looking at the file which controls the model number check. I forget which one it is, it is either a text file or an INI file. It should have a list of specific models.)

When you talked to Sony support did you deal with level one or level two? If not level two you might want to try again and get them to escalate you to level two right away. Be firm but be really nice to them, explain that you tried once before to get this resolved with them but the suggestions didn't work so you'd lie to escalate. Sweet talk them as you do this and you will get escalated right away. Been there, done that.

in BIOS model number is Ok. Also i'm sure that the update was for correct model. I already updated my Bios- everything was correct (model name on updater, update was applied correctly) except that "not intended model" errow. I have contacted to 2nd level support numerous time. Last time we had remote assistance. They didnt managed to fix it and they suggested me to call Sony.

iLoveVaio - If you are talking about not being able to update your BIOS, I have been through exactly the same thing. I spent an hour on chat with Sony Tech support one night. They were really good about trying to solve my problem but couldn't. I ended up solving the problem myself when I stumbled on another post where someone was having similar problems on another model of Sony. I posted about this on page #4 post #38.
