I just got my S580. After burning the recovery discs I performed a system recovery. Upon booting into windows I get the following error:

"LaunchCombo.exe - Unable to Locate Component
This application has failed to start because arp.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."

I assume this is the auto launch that requires you to install the third party software and drivers upon booting into windows. Has anyone had any experience with this error or know how to get rid of it?

    Thanks.

Nevermind. After performing system recovery again it's fine.... how odd. Did anyone figure out how to bypass the installation of thidr party software on the s580? I read the stickied thread by lanwarrior about one of the files in the registry he removed that did it for the s4xx series, but I dont see that file in the run folder for the s580.

    Thanks.

slidahz, did you partitioned your hard drive then recover the system? I'd like to resize mine. But Sony's technician told me once I recover the system, it will erase all the partitions and make it back to a unique one. I just want to know whether it's worthy to resize my HD if what he said is true.

The restore would put it back to factory condition. If you want to partition, partition it after with Partition Magic from Symantec.

yeah, the system recovery will just put everything back into the factory condition with one partition (and a hidden partition if you keep your recovery partition). I think Stimp is right. If you want to partition it you should just use partition magic.

I've just done the resizing with partition magic, everything is fine so far. I found two different choices in VAIO Recovery Tools: recover C: and recover system. Guess if I use recover C:, it won't put it back to factory condition. Not sure I am right or not though.

I never tried the recover C: option, but I'm guessing it won't let you partition since most of this recovery stuff seemed pretty automated. Good to hear you got your drive partitioned though.

just recover C: & your D: drive will remain intact. I have done it about 7 times. :D
