I'm eyeing the S170, but Sony is so overpriced...especially when it comes to cpu & memory upgrades, etc. Do they ever run sales or discounts on new laptops? I know about the $200 sonystyle credit being offered, but I'd prefer to get a discount off the actual computer purchase.

Should I look for something else or wait for a deal to pop up?

    Thanks,
    m

You'll do better not buying from Sony directly. The odds of finding coupons or discounts will be much higher.

    Brain,

Thanks for the reply. One reason I'd prefer to order directy from Sony is to be able to customize. Do any resellers offer this option?

Unfortunately, the only place to customize is SonyStyle. If you come over to the S-Series forums (http://sony.thumbrocket.com), you can see what other people have done for upgrading their CPU's and HDD's on their own...

on the contrary to what magic168 said, if you have a Best Buy store near you, you can get to their computer section, go on the computers they have there and actually customize to your needs, and they do have sonys. if you're looking for a great notebook at a cheap price, check cyberpowerpc.com and go to notebooks, they have great 1's at great prices
