I am a student going to college next year and I am picking up the VAIO SA. I was wondering if any one knew if Sony had any discounts that most people are not aware of. The only one I have been able to find is the 5% discount for students and that is basically nothing when the laptop costs 1600, even apple gives better deals on their over priced stuff.

So should I wait for some better deals? if the Z is coming out in America soon should I wait and hope they drop prices since the Z was made for that portable market? Or should I just pick it up because apparently Sony blows at discounts?

It is just frustrating because companies like HP and Dell give 20-30% off when you call their reps. So it would be nice to get atleast 10 or 15% off etc....

Be happy with what you have. The SA went up in price (400 Euro) in some European markets after the new Z got introduced. LOL, don't expect it to go down!

Perhaps you can pick one up from the outlet. At least here in the EU, those are claimed to be refurbs but in the most cases do come in brand new condition (got 5 laptops for friends from the outlet and 4/5 came without a scratch and with 2-3 power cycles, read from S.M.A.R.T. data, probably from OS installation in factory).

Guyz..I've been planning on the SA for a long time...and finally seeing all these posts that the prices have been going up..I decided to pull the trigger...just order one over the phone.

Wow Sony Sales is pretty stingy :D ...The best they could offer me was
    5% discount (or) a free sleeve+keyboard skin.
I found that the former is a better deal. So, the final price including taxes...was $1680.

I'll post my experience once I receive it!

I ordered over the phone also and got a 5% discount also. I tried to get more, but wasn't able to get it from the sales guys. However they put me in touch with Customer Care after I ordered and was able to get another $112 off. So I got in total around 7 or 8% off. If you are nice and plead a little they help you out. I got a F series 22 2d.
