I'm going to buy VAIO in US and use it in Germany.
I'm afraid if germany service will accept US warranty - anyone have tried this? Maybe in some other country in Europe?

I think that it will be best to speak with both service centres and see what they say on the issue. The reason I say both is that some companies still keep their centres in isolation, and so if you ask one, you may not get the whole story.

i did some research while in the usa about buying a viao and bringing it to the uk. i never found - in writing- a definitive answer. BUT, i spoke to sony people in the states and they said that if the laptop needed to be returned for repair, then i would have to first mail it from the uk to a friend in the usa. then my american friend would order the sony packaging material, which sony would send to any usa address for free shipping back to their repair centre. once they had repaired it, they would send it back to the american address. so my friend would then have to send it back to me in the uk. that's a lot of extra costs and could take a very long time. so although it was a lot cheaper to buy the machine in the states, i decided that it would be too much hassle.

if, however, you only need phone support, then of course you can dial the american helpline from anywhere in the world (time zones permitting) and get support. if the computer had a serious malfunction and needed to be returned (and you didn't want to send it back to america) i think your only choice (in the uk, at least) is to pay sony uk to fix it. which can cost between 150-500 pounds.

one last thing: there may be some special warrantee service which, for extra money, will ensure you're covered worldwide. i think dell do such a thing, but i'm not sure if sony do.

as i said, though. all this is just from my own research - it's not definitive.

There is an Overseas Warranty Pack available, which is useful in Germany.
I did it the same way.

I've just got a reply from Germany - they say they provide free repair only if laptop was bought in Germany...
    Thanks.
Do I have to buy it with my laptop (in US) or can I do it after return - in Germany?

    It costs 49euro on sony.de
