    Sony service quality/speed

    Hello everyone!

    I'm thinking about buying an new VAIO CS, but users' opinions about Sony's service/support are quite controversial. :confused2: To have a better view, I'd like to ask a couple of questions:

    1) I'm buying the laptop in Greece, with a 2-year "standard" warranty. By "standard" I mean that, since Sony's onsite warranty is not available in my country, it's the usual 2-year warranty Sony offers in most countries. From other users' experiences, about how much time does it take Sony to fix/replace a defective product from the day I call their support??

    2) After the first year I am going to study in UK. Will the warranty be still valid there?

    3) When in UK, where Sony's onsite warranty applies (on certain products), can I extend my warranty to the better onsite warranty??

    In any case, how important is the support of a pc for its user? Although I LOVE Vaio CS's design and features, I have read many stories in this forum and now I'm not sure if I should prefer a Dell, which has a 2-years onsite (next-business-day) warranty anyway.

    You should definitely call & ask about the warranty's validity, especially if you will be moving. I can only speak of my own experience here in the US, but service was pretty good. The day after I called, I was sent a Fedex overnight box. It arrived at Sony on a Monday, and I received my laptop back the week after. However, this also depends on what's getting fixed. If you're stuck waiting on a part that's not arriving, that could be an issue.

    Technically, as long as you're not applying for accidental damage coverage, you can register an extended warranty as long as there is still 60 (or 90?) days left in your original manufacturer's warranty. But I'm unclear on if they will cover your laptop if it's bought in another country, etc. You should definitely call Sony and ask.

    In the end, you might be better off with a business-line laptop that sometimes has international coverage? I know Lenovo offers that. Maybe Dell business does as well.

    1.)When you purchased a Standard warranty it will only by covered on the country you purchased the warranty not unless the warranty provider of sony in your country has different policy what do I recomend is to purchased an international warranty if it's an available option in Greece because (VOS) or international warranty can be covered any country.

    2.)NO! manufacturer warranty will only by aknowledge in the country where purchased it.

    3.)In US normally it takes 3-5days for an onsite service.

    Sony warrantys in Europe are valid in the whole of Europe, but:
    Germany - you get a 2 year warranty, move to the UK, you'll only get 1 year of warranty. If something happens after one year I would have to take it back to Germany for the additional year.

    I don't know how a "foreign" warranty exrtension would work, you could get Sony's international coverage though.
